The Red Party

Ahh, where do I begin. I'm having a birthday party tomorrow, but instead of anticipation, the mood is one of worry. I worry that too few people would turn up. I worry that people will get lost. I worry that people might not enjoy themselves. It wasn't something that I've always wanted at the beginning.

On a side note, I had an extravagant fantasy of having it at Cafe del Mar, or somewhere along the beaches of Sentosa.

Anyway, I'm happy that my parents are willing to organise this for me. Personally I don't know what's the fuss with being 21 (other than R21 movies) but I suppose it's a good opportunity to just hang out with all the people who matter to me under one roof.

I didn't exactly call everyone I knew because I was worried that they wouldn't fit in, or would feel obliged to come just because I asked. I'm scared! I don't often take the initiative to ask people out to begin with and now I'm actually supposed to ask people to come and celebrate ME? It's just too much. So please understand my err... nervousness!

If you're reading this and know me personally, what the hell, come down! I didn't manage to contact a lot of people from hall especially, so yes if you're reading this I'm inviting you! It's really my fault for all the last-minuteness and my incompetence. I apologise sincerely. All significant other-halves of my good friends are also welcomed.

Ahh... kind of sad that there are a few people I know who'd turn up but are overseas for now. You know who you are - David, Shuming, Angeline and Chris! If I were loaded with cash I'd book flights and get you guys over! Haha...

Weifang - recover from chicken pox soon yah!

The theme of the party is Red. I don't think that requires an explanation. It's most important that when you turn up tomorrow, you enjoy yourselves. Seeing all of you happy will make me happy. What I can promise you are two bottles of Baileys with lots of ice, decks of poker cards, decent music, good food, and my warm welcome. What I would require you to bring is a desire to have fun and a good sense of humour.

Presents are optional.

Mid-Autumn

01

First, a quick shoutout to one of the coolest people I've ever known in my life. Happy 21st Birthday Samuel! He's the guy I probably had the most enjoyable guard duty with, and also all the extra shizzle we had to go through with our extra driver duties... life would've been very different without him, so I really appreciate it. The gang went out last Thursday for Swensons at Prince Hotel. We sort of screwed up a little bit when Guo Fei and I both approached the staff on seperate occassions so we ended up having a small free ice-cream thing with a candle and a big cake, which I thought tasted really good! Haha...

Anyway, it's not that I cannot be bothered to write more in my entries, just that all the school work is catching up with me, and I'm so busy doing these things that I don't have time to blog about it! Haha... Last Saturday, I celebrated Mid-Autumn with my family. We had a BBQ at our usual spot.

01

Cosy atmosphere and everything. I think we've had it there for about 5 years or something! Unlike previous years, we didn't take the lanterns for a walk though. I think we've either grown up too much or can't be bothered!

01

We did an activity together though! We tried to persuade our grandparents to come down and join us, but I guess they just didn't felt up for it. We did a bit of whining ( well actually a lot ), joking, tried crying etc. but it didn't quite work! Nonetheless we had fun attempting, with all 11 of us trouping up to their place and causing a racket!

Tuesday night I came back from hall and there was a real racket outside of my door as JingYing, Shaun, Ivan, Kai Rong, Daniel and Kristle, armed with firecrackers and lanterns dropped by for a visit. We had a lot of fun being childish, burning up lanterns, causing a racket (the security guard asked us to split up!) and smoking my room with the firecrackers.

01

Oh yeah they did attempt to burn my underwear hanging at the laundry line.

01

My two favourite girls in Hall 12.

01

Okay fine so this is a crap photo because I left it at the only place that I could and the flash didn't manage to reach us, but I like it anyway! It was a short 15 minute affair but we had a lot of fun. After that Kristle, JY, Dan and I went for supper at the roti prata place.

01

And yes, the view was fantastic. My shaky hands kind of ruined the photo a little bit though!

01

Me and the new roomie... in two weeks? Haha... Anyway, we managed to get really really lost (partially because that path down from SAO was closed dammit).

01

Along the way though, we managed to entertain ourselves with the firecrackers. The wind was rather strong that night and we had a bit of trouble lighting the thing, but Daniel managed to do it (okay I'm lousy) after a couple more tries.

01

I managed a J!

01

She was trying to do a K but yeah, it's probably the nicest out of the lot!

And so we only got there one exhausting hour later. I liked the prata though, and was contemplating going for seconds. After that we took a cab back which was much more worth it! It was 4AM already!

I think I really need to familiarise myself with the route for supper!

Alone Not Lonely

I'm in Hall and there's virtually no one I know who's back yet. I had breakfast at the canteen about half an hour ago. What's normally a half an hour affair full of laughter and chatter was shortened to a speedy 5-minute thing. Now I'm back in my room with BBMak's Back Here playing in the background. I've got to admit that old songs do sound better. I'll take that back when I hear Ayo Technology though. It reminds me of my favourite quote to describe pop music - "...cheap, sticky thrill of pop, the joy of music that doesn't have to mean anything tomorrow but means everything while it's playing RIGHT NOW".

It has only stopped raining. I like waking up in the middle of my sleep to appreciate the fact that it's cool outside, I'm snuggled in my blanket, and I can wake up any time I damn well like. It was kind of hard to get myself going for breakfast. I had to bring that snuggly feeling with me to the canteen, so I wore the IVP jacket.

I like the amount of personal space I have as compared to being at home. Back home, my table is unable to accomodate my mess any longer. I put my lappy on the dining table. I get distracted by the TV that's directly in front of the dining area. It's turned on almost all the time. My bedroom's in another area of the house. It's very different as compared to Hall, where I have everything of mine in one cosy spot. I don't mind that it's smaller than a 5 room flat and that there's no TV (dammit... all the MTV that I'm missing!).

I miss the company since all my friends aren't back yet, but it's a change that's as refreshing as new underwear. I acknowledged the difference by doing things a little differently today, like having coffee instead of tea. The two aren't interchangeable, and I realised why I prefer tea (despite having it 5 days a week for as many weeks as school has started) as compared to drain water.

Recess week has just begun but I'm looking forward to the next holiday already.

Communication Historians

I could change the title to "What bored CS students do when they're armed with a DSLR". Anyway, Communication Historians is a weird title that Ahmad gave us. We all thought it was really cool. We're a group of CS students who happen to take the elective "What Is History", and it has two tutorial groups and we happen to be in the same one. So in the course of waiting for lessons, finding our way around school and other silly shared experiences, we've become a rather close clique. It consists of Ahmad, Kenneth, Sheila, Yiling, Kristle, Fabian and me. I'm quite happy of how I have a cool group of people to hang out with in school because before that I'd have the tendency to take refuge in hall during breaks.

Not anymore. Hahaha...

On Thursday, we had an hour and a half before our History tutorial so we hung out at Can 13 for lunch and schemed about how we would go about surprising Yiling for her birthday. The hotdog in meatsauce was fantastic. I can't believe I don't eat it more often! We then stoned around, talked rubbish and...

01

Took attitude photos. There was a hilarious one of Kristle with the store "Crystal" in the background! After that I had ice-cream waffle with Daniel as he had his lunch before I rushed down for my lesson, only to find that all the others weren't there yet! We always make a grand entrance when we go for lesson just because there's so many many of us! Haha...

After that tutorial Sheila and Yiling went to settle some CS stuff while the rest of us trouped down to Kristle's room and waited for the pizza to come. We got everything together as quickly as we could, and it was a pity that Sheila and Yiling didn't lose their way because when they arrived we weren't done putting the candles on the pizza!

01

I opened the door and gave some lame excuse as the rest of them started lighting the candles frantically. I was kind of crap because Yiling guessed that there was something going on but they obliged and took a walk around before coming back! Haha...

After the very touching birthday song they looked at the very famous Kristle board.

01

Anybody who knows Kristle knows the Kristle board. It's a little bit more famous than her maybe! Her boyfriend made it for her and it contained the most interesting (and unglamorous!) photos of her! Haha... Fantastic stuff.

01

A pic with the birthday girl...

01

And we lazed around, ate and drank till it was time for the rest of them to go for their respective lessons. It's the life!

Tintin Steamboat

After a bit of planning, the Tintin steamboat finally happened!

01

It was nice to get everyone back together as a group. The company was good. The food was even more amazing. There was so much food and so little of us that initially we thought we couldn't finish everything, but due to greediness and temptation, I think all the plates were empty by the time we were through with them!

01

Everyone enjoyed themselves.

01

And one group pic for the photo albums!

I also went for interviews for Beachout and DnD. I'm proud that I'm an both of them as Event Manager and Publicity and Publications. I don't know if this sounds weird but I'm really excited to be involved in these two events. I'm looking forward to working on both of them!

Water Polo

01

Had my first experience with Water Polo on Monday after lessons. I don't think I would've dared to attempt something new without my two bros, Daniel and Kelvin, going with me! It was a lot of fun, even though I was pretty much shit at it. I can forsee myself liking the game. It's like when I just started volleyball. I enjoyed it even if I looked damn awkward playing it but after a couple of years I think I'm more or less decent. It's going to take some time to learn the sport and I really hope the seniors have the patience for my incompetence! Haha...

They were all friendly in teaching the sport and I'm super eager to learn as well.

I'll be joining volleyball and polo for inter-hall games, so yay to sports that I can finally join!

My Desk

01

I've meant to update my blog about my table for a couple of days but the Photoshop kept screwing me around and I was saved by JY else there'd be no pictures for a very very long time! Anyway, I put in some effort into decorating my table bit by bit. From the original two red Creative speakers to buying photo frames, wallpaper for my pin-up board, two letters from my angel-mortal game, OG notes, to even more photos of my havoc life in hall! Of course this is not the exact, current state of my table now. It's slightly messier but that's only because I actually use it! Hahaha...

I'll update more when I've got time. I'm rushing endless school work, stuff that I owed from weeks ago. I've realised that it keeps piling up when I don't bother enough about it. I'm grateful for the recess week that's coming up. I need a bit of a breather. It's that intense.

Quiz on Thursday. How blah.

I'm not a "fresh" freshie anymore. No more mistakes. I'll do better.

Now Watch Us

It is true that in addition to writing for myself, I write for an audience. If you don't, you're not right mentality of thinking from your reader's point of view and thus not only will you not capture the attention of people who come to your blog, I see it as utter disrespect.

So I know you want to see your face on my blog!

01

Hahaha... Samuel, Guo Fei, YC and I met up on Thursday night at Holland V. I think it's the first time that I've set foot in that area. We went for a bit of food at the hawker centre (the fruit juice costs $3. Seriously.) before heading to Coffee Bean for drinks! Sam noted that we had rather weird social habits - instead of fighting to foot the bill, we fought to get one person to pay for Coffee Bean. And somehow after compiling a list of relevant points to support our argument, we got YC, who came back from his 6+ months Eurotrip to treat us! Well, Sam and I shared a cup of Iced Mocha although we probably should've gotten one each but vanity got the best of us.

We talked about a lot of crap, about school, about work, about girls. YC had a little bit more to share on his trip around Europe. In fact he even brought along a map for effective presentation! Haha... It's really a dream to go to Europe but it wasn't all smooth-riding for him. He lived on expired bread for first few days before he found a job. The expenses for putting a roof over his head and travelling really put a strain on his wallet. However it got better after that - he got himself a good job, a sponsored trip to Spain to learn Spanish for a month (we asked for "Let's make love." in Spanish!). We also learned that our "V" for victory sign (the one you make with your index and middle finger) is a rude hand gesture, which he found out when a customer jokingly responded by giving him the middle finger.

After even more crap about my pageant, about Sam's dodgeball, and Guo Fei's highly intelligent cold jokes which I sorely missed, we all hopped into his car and he sent the other guys back home before we went to his hall to take a look at his pageant photos and Hall 11's version of DnD. I felt that their stage was smaller and was thus a more intimate setting. The one big difference was that they didn't have to get shirtless for the beachwear segment (while Hall 8, I've just realised, got to wore NUM singlets and took them off during the segment). The girls all looked rather similar due to their hairstyles and makeup on that night. Judging from the photos alone, I think F4 is the prettiest.

Shallow shallow shallow.

I need to go hunt down professional photos of my DnD!

01

Yes I'm deprived. Kenneth returned from his jamming session and I chatted a bit with him as well. He's the guy who spammed my tagboard! Haha...

I slept a mere 2-3 hours that night as I returned to hall and had a long heart-to-heart talk. The next day I was barely conscious as I went for breakfast with Daniel and Joyce! After that I went for tuition and returned home to stone for awhile . I wanted to sleep very badly but I don't know why I became preoccupied with surfing the net! Out of the blue Zhenhui called me for lunch and I agreed immediately. We took his car to Ikea at Tampines where we had Poached Salmon and Chicken (can't remember the name of the dish!). It's impossible to step into Ikea and not get anything. The bad thing is I sort of lost self-control and bought an item that costs twice of my expenses on my previous trip to Ikea!

01

At night Si Hua and I went down to East Coast to celebrate Nana's birthday! It was a surprise birthday thing that her boyfriend organised and it included her family and a couple of close friends. I enjoyed the food tremendously as well as the cool embrace of the sea breeze that relaxed me a lot. For the first time in a long time I wasn't rushing to anywhere, doing anything, or deep in thought. It was also cool to talk to her chatty 6 year old nephew who went on about the things that a 6 year old revolves around - school, toys, games and TV. Haha... innocence is priceless.

I hope she enjoyed herslef because we certainly did! Si Hua's boyfriend came and the three of us took a cab back home.

This has been a freaking long entry.

Unexpected Supper

01

Just want to thank you two for the unexpected supper last night. I know it was wrong of me to sound grumpy and all. It was a real surprise when both of you popped by my room with this when I said I was in a bad mood. I felt really guilty and at the same time full of gratitude. I was quite impressed by the mashed egg and cheese in between the two pieces of bread. The chocolate milk was deliciously filling too. Both of you didn't probe me for the cause of my moodiness but wanted me to cheer up all the same.

It's kinda hard to not smile in a silly manner to myself after that.

Appreciated!

Red

First and foremost, Britney's performance sucked big time. I think she has to know that. I think she knows that even her most hardcore fans were finding it hard to defend that performance. I can ignore what she does in her personal time, but as I've said time and again, she's not a singer, she's a performer. But the opening of VMAs was so shit I thought I could have given a better performance! I'm exaggerating but someone needs to get it through her thick skull that she's losing it, professionally. Gimme More is fantastic. The performance was not. Please let the video be of some standard, although it'll be hard to redeem herself after that shit of a performance.

I went through a bit of preparation for the first assessable speech and I was inspired by the topic Red the moment I laid eyes one it. I'm not going to bore you with the (RED) initiative (the same red you see on Gap's Inspi(RED) tees, and the MotorolaRAZR V3 (RED)) and its contributions to the Global Fund which helps the AIDS situation in Africa. I just want to say that I'm really flattered that some of my tutorial mates told me that I did a good job, although I do have quite some stuff to improve on. I was nervous as hell! Luckily my shaking legs were hid behind the desk!

I think most people know by now that Jason is not in my IC, and I named myself as such in Primary 5 when I was looking for a random English name to call myself. I bet most of you also know (but the fact never fails to amaze) that I got the name Jason from the Red Ranger, who was the leader of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers! Okay, I think I'm kind of crazy.

01

And this explains a bit of the obsession I have with the colour. I was wearing that T-shirt during the presentation today! Haha... I like how it's bold and stands out. I went through a phase where I tried to convert my entire wardrobe to red, but luckily I had more sense than that!

It's presentations all day and I was rehearsing with my theatre group today at the rooftop garden of the HSS building.

01

The scenery was amazing but there were one too many snails! Alright, I'm kidding. There were plenty of hilarious photos of us in character that I'd like to share if I could just get it from Eugene...

01

But for now you'll have to settle with these rather low quality pics from my phone! We enjoyed ourselves tremendously preparing for it. It's the only homework that doesn't feel like work! I haven't memorised all my lines exactly, so I've got to work on that! It'll be fun. I'll probably have more photos of us in costume tomorrow when it happens!

You're Dumb

I feel retarded when I e-mail my lecture and get a very cheem response in return. I feel shallow and inadequate and... well, is it supposed to work this way?!

I need more depth!

VMAs Opening Act

I've just been to http://www.breatheheavy.com/ and I can't breathe anymore! I was going to write an entry with real depth rather than my usual I've been up to this and that, but I guess I'm that shallow. So. Britney's the opening act for today's MTV Video Music Awards! The link shows her rehearsing for her performance. Her body's banging! From this moment, whoever says she's fat needs to get their eyes checked.

You can hop onto MTV's official website here where there's an entire writeup devoted to the crazy hype. She seems to be collaborating with magician Criss Angel as well, so I can't be blamed for being this excited about her performance.

Although MTV suck big time and haven't given her an award yet (bastards), she's given them some of TV's biggest, most-talked-about performances to date.

01

01

01

Once the entire VMAs is over, newpapers and gossip rags everywhere will report on the event as if she was the only one who performed. How the other acts are going to top her or even share the same damned stage as her, I seriously don't know.

Post-Pageant Week

This is my first week without having to worry about pageant and I must say it feels kind of different, in a good way! It's great to have the pressure of performing and being on stage behind me, despite liking the feeling a lot! On Monday Wei Fang and I made our way to Ikea to meet Kelvin and Daniel, who were there about an hour before us! We had their iconic meatballs for dinner... fantastic stuff.

I think photos of Ikea meatballs have been done to death though, so I'll have none of that!

01

We went shopping for some all important stuff that'll add some life to our hall rooms. There were some very practical objects going for below 5 dollars and we grabbed quite a lot of things. I got a red dustbin and a doormat, while the rest of them bought bowls and soft toys and clothes stands.

01

We took a cab back to hall, but I alighted at JP to join the DnD people. I managed to reach in time for dessert - ice-cream was fantastic.

When I went back I went to Kelvin's room to collect all my Ikea stuff and he had a display of his soft toys...

01

I don't know what's the purpose but they were really cute to look at. That green bowl was also bought from Ikea! I've managed to remember all their names already - Sealion, Doggy Dog, Piggy and Mr On! It did take awhile though... I always get scolded for not getting their names right.

01

And I went to Daniel's room to take a photo with his newly-acquired dragon Full Moon. I don't know how he comes up with the names but they stick. Haha... Xuans and Daniel also had photos with Full Moon, so maybe you can bug them for theirs too!

I think I'm crazy.

Anyway, after the Publications subcomm meeting on Tuesday, I'm now the group manager of Writeups & Newsletters. Okay, so I volunteered, but that doesn't mean that other people don't think I'm good enough for the job! I'll prove myself! Haha... anyway, so if you guys feel that there should be a writeup on anything in hall at all, feel free to give me some ideas, after all it's the audience that matters most! It'll be great if people could contribute some writeups as well, but I'll have to iron out the details with the boss before it can actually happen.

Hmmm, ooh, and a lot of people crashed my room on Wednesday, which is quite rare considering that my room is usually quite quiet!

01

And after we talked for awhile, Daniel, Kristle and I had a cup noodle party in my room (again), and Jing Ying came down for a chat after her Roti Prata.

Hmmm, other random things that happened this week - I ran two rounds around NTU for the first time with my old man last night! Haha... I'm tired as hell but I enjoyed it a lot. The good part was that there was milo and instant noodles with crab sticks and hotdogs after that! Shiok!

Oh and in case you don't know yet (which is kind of hard considering I was one of the last to know when Jing Ying told me yesterday), there are a couple thousand of Hall 12's FOC photos at http://hall12photos.multiply.com/. Check it out if you have the time! (Ignore ugly/unglam photos of me.)
