I am from Mercury

You Are From Mercury

You are talkative, clever, and knowledgeable - and it shows.
You probably never leave home without your cell phone!
You're witty, expressive, and aware of everything going on around you.
You love learning, playing, and taking in all of what life has to offer.
Be careful not to talk your friends' ears off, and temper your need to know everything.

Footer

Well, it's been 3 months and so I'm changing the pics for the footer, header and my sig. Anyway, the new footer is already up because I couldn't resist putting it up! It does look more impressive than the previous one, though it's rather simple. The celebs featured include -

Chris Evans
Britney Spears
Cristiano Ronaldo
Lindsay Lohan
Ryan Philipe
Kelly Clarkson
Justin Timberlake
Kylie Minogue
Jay Chou
Madonna
Jeff Timmons
Janet
Tom Cruise

I've done the header but it doesn't look very satisfactory, but I might just go ahead and use it anyway. It'd be a lot of effort making a new one.

Ming Boon! We should really meet up one day and you have to tell me about you meeting the stars! Ahhh!!!

5 Things that we could add to our resume...

Well, my platoon and I have been through a lot this month. We've done SAF decorations at SAFTI MI. And mind you, we put in our best efforts in everything we do. And that's when chances to learn new skills arise and of course, we grab 'em.

#5
Ladder-confidence
If you want to get anything done that requires a climbing of ladders, you've got the right men! Fear-of-heights is not something you'd find in our vocabulary sonny. We've been at it for hours at a time, doing things that require high concentration like tying the buntings on the right lamp-railing using cable ties. I'll pay anybody 5 bucks if they can do it faster than anyone of us. Try me.

#4
Ironing
You know that you've topped the skills at ironing if you've to iron buntings (dictionary - rows of small cloth or paper flags and other decorations, hung across streets and on buildings on special occasions) which are curved. Those curvy, long pieces of cloth have to be flushed of equal length at each section and must be able to sit there prettily on all occassions. 3 people are required to hold up one such bunting. Trust me, I think we're experts at this. We did it for 4-5 hours each day, for 4 consecutive days.

#3
Furniture-moving
We've seen everything. Extendable ladders, non-extendable ladders, buntings, pails, rolls of red carpet... all the fuckshit you can think of, we've moved them. Our biggest achievement so far is moving the rotating table, which is a monstrous contraption containing 3 parts. The biggest one requires no less than 10 men to transport around. Heavy and complicated to assemble, I think we're lucky that it's still in one piece. What the hell, I mean 3.

#2
Double-sided tape removal
Don't worry if you've got doube sided tape stuck on anything. The reason is because we remove them from everything! If it's stuck on the floor, we'll use terpentine, brushes, mops and jacknives. If it's stuck onto buntings, we'll use our thumbs and nails to dig and roll them out. Apparently, people use double sided tape like it's FREE. Therefore we do charge for extra hours on duty though.

#1
Doing nothing.
Waiting around with plenty of time to spare, we specialise in stoning, reading books, magazines and newspapers , playing chinese chess and sleeping. Just throw us in one corner and you can pretend we don't even exist!

Britney Spears - Someday ( I Will Understand )

Nothing seems to be the way
That it used to
Everything seems shallow
God give me truth
In me
Tell me somebody's watching
Over me
And that is all is that I'm praying is

Someday
I will understand

If there was a song I ever felt was food for the soul, this is it. With lyrics that can be interpreted in a multitude of ways in such a way that I sometimes feel that I can't relate to the song, it is also where the beauty of the song radiates through. You'd be able to find the meaning of the song through your own interpretation of the lyrics. Britney said she wrote it about womanhood and having a baby, and it somehow was a 'prophecy' because she wrote it before she found out she was pregnant.

Her vocals in this song are unique compared to what she's done before. The feeling and emotions are expressed so strongly in her voice and with the simple backing music to accompany it, the song seeps to invade one's conscious pretty effortlessly. The honesty from this song shines through and you get the feeling that you're listening to more than just a pop song.

Listen to it... and get lost in the song...

Here's the link to the full version of the song. Enjoy!

- I N I T I A L D -

After booking out yesterday (which I waited for so long to do), I went out with Van to the cinema at Balestier. I was so glad to see her come back safe and sound from her OCIP trip in Thailand. A lot of cool things happened and she had so much to tell, from the appreciation of the locals' hospitality to the challenging trek to the villages atop the hills.

Anyway, we caught Initial D.

The media hype has reached an insane level this week with Jay Chou, Edison Chen and Shawn Yue coming to promote this movie. In fact, they've been on the cover of Life! for two days in a row. Most impressive publicity I must say.

I think the movie is a rather entertaining one, but I guess I expected too much from it so it was kind of a let down in some sense. Also, I was quite tired towards the end so I didn't appreciate what every journo has described as 'one hell of an exciting car race'. There's a lot of humour in the movie. As a huge fan of Jay Chou and watching him in his first movie ever, I felt kind of embarrassed and proud at the same time. His portrayal of the sometimes shy yet cool-behind-the-wheels character was somewhat similar to himself. Shy (well he used to be) at press conferences but assumes an air of confidence when it comes to music. At certain parts of the movie, he kind of looked like his Fantasy album days. The presence of Edison Chen added the much needed coolness to the movie. The co-stars were pretty outstanding as well.

As for the cinematography, too much of a good thing bores the hell out of me. And I thought the soundtrack was somewhat inappropriate as well too. I might just watch it a second time to appreciate it better.

Don't get me wrong, it still is a cool movie and one worth watching. Unique in its comical portrayal of its characters yet at the same time featuring the very serious concept of car-racing and the technique of drifting, this is one movie that you won't find easy to forget. I give it a 3.5/5.

In the meantime, I'm eagerly anticipating another comic-book-turn-movie - Fantastic 4. Staring the likes of Jessica Alba and Chris Evans...

It's going to be hot.

Kiss-Off

Today's Father's Day so let me start of by wishing all Dads a Happy Father's Day! That being done, I'll be rushing off to a relatives' house to celebrate it, so this last entry of the week is going to be a short one.

Speaking of family, here's a blend of the photos of my 2 siblings when we went to East Coast last week!

I had tonnes of fun blogging this week. This must be one of the most word-filled weekends of posts ever! I haven't been inspired much by any new music this week so I guess we'll have to see if there's anything fresh and exciting next week. If you've got anything of interest, tag me too. This week, it was Mr and Mrs Smith. Next week, you can expect to see a review of Initial D (if I can get tickets for it!) and more stuff on entertainment, and ME! Up for download this week is a rock remix of Toxic - http://s29.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=39N8TV8UY92JF3PU2KVD2NVW0J .

Till the next weekend, have fun and Keep Your Cool!0789! Posted by Hello

Pulau Ubin

I went out yesterday with a friend whom I haven't met in like, one and a half years - Benjamin! Haha, it took some kind of getting used to because we hadn't seen each other in so long. He said I look different too.

We met at Bedok and then took bus no.2 which took us to the hawker center. We ate there before going to the Changi Ferry Point and took a ferry down to Pulau Ubin.

Cycling there is a different kind of experience. The track there is probably more challenging than any I've ever cycled before. At some points I had to get down from my bike and push it manually! There're a lot of bicycle rental shops there and some places selling food. The feel is very 1960s and there were quite a few abandoned houses along the path. There isn't much to see there other than the quarry which has since filled up with water and the view of that was indeed impressive. It's just simply cycling in the natural surroundings. Well, it wasn't exactly natural. Luckily there was a road for us to cycle on. We did have a chance to go onto some dirt tracks but they contained great muddy puddles and pebbles which made more difficult to cycle on.

We were probably drenched with sweat after awhile and stopped at various places to rest and take a drink. They sell drinks almost everywhere because the water from the tap isn't potable so there isn't much of a choice. It was bloody hot yesterday (my forearms are now darker than the rest of my body), so my advice to anyone going there is to bring lots of water and maybe a bit of sunblock!

We cycled almost the entire island. Well, at least the parts that could be cycled! At the end of everything we were tired out. Went home directly after that. It was real fun, but I think I've done enough cycling to last me the entire month!

Sentosa next! Anyone?

Shoutout!

A shoutout to Berton who's linked my blog to his. You can visit him at http://iamfickle.blogspot.com!

Amidst all the confusion, fi5h was talking about the Zen Micro. Not Britney.

Congratz to Mak for making it one step closer to his airforce stint. He'll be booking into OCS on Monday, while I'll be going to SAFTI for the entire week to put up decorations for SAF day. Ew.

Yeah, MB I finally got photoshop already and I'll be having tonnes of fun with it. Also can't wait to watch Initial D which opens next month. Yay!

TWJ, thanks for all the tags you've left in the tagboard. Also... just feel happy for me that I finally got an mp3 player even though it's not an ipod, k. That's like the least you could do as a friend. To me 359 bucks is a lot of cash. And I'm happy with it. Ya.

Thanks to all of you who've been visiting my blog. More to come later today! Well, at least before I book in to another week of SK aka Silver Knight aka Sai Kang...

Mr and Mrs Smith

Had the chance to go out yesterday with a BMT platoon mate I hadn't seen in a long time - Sidney! It was truly kind of weird going out for the first time since we weren't especially close during BMT and the few things we shared in common was a bit of Britney fanatism and re-IPPT.

I had a halfday yesterday so I met him at 1415 at Woodlands MRT station and he came up from behind me. We went to buy tickets to Mr and Mrs Smith before going to the foodcourt to eat. We chatted quite a lot and yep, suddenly it feels like the most natural thing in the world! Haha! He had his honeydew sagoo and I had my fish porridge because I was still sick. Had 2 days of Att C this week, which was how I managed to update about Britters and her new song. Anyway. After we finished eating and all it was pretty much time to catch the movie.

Mr and Mrs Smith. Oh yeah. Bring it on.

I think it is in fact a very cool movie. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have amazing chemistry. Although the storyline isn't strong enough as it dissolves to mere action in the end, the characters created were real enough to pull through. Acting as a sexy couple isn't challenging for two of Hollywood's sexiest people, but throw in a bit of comedy and they get more interesting. Of course, this movie wouldn't be anything without the action. They look good in suits and then with a snap of your fingers, hell they look good with blood all over them too.

At the grand finale, both of them pose with guns as if in dance, shooting their enemies down while classical music is playing. Violence? Check. Elegance? Check. Killing while looking cool? Check.

I'd give this movie 3.5/5. It isn't something to worry about if you missed it, if you caught it then good for you. It's been touted as the #1 movie in Singapore and the USA but I say: Save your money for Initial D!

Moving on, we mad a made dash for the toilet (okay at least I did) before trying to shop the whole of Causeway Point. I must admit that the shopping center does bore me, but Sidney brought me to places that I didn't usually go to and I had a hell lot of fun looking at hi-fis and handphones. It was as if I had personal salesman to tell me about 3G phones and their functions too! Sidney's an interesting person to go out with. We went to Popular, to Music Junction and also to Cold Storage. Everywhere! Along the way we had a rather meaningful conversation too and got to know each other better. Hmm, when it was finally time to go I was quite shocked at how near we lived to each other. Maybe next time can come out for supper! Haha! Rock on dude!

Pop The Music

Pop music is underrated.

Pop music is being trashed by all the self-declared 'real'-music lovers. People who believe that singers should write their own songs to be credible. People who think that music nowadays is becoming too commercialised. People who have the rubbish perspective that sex sells albums. (I think I hear Britney stripping when I play In The Zone dammit.) People who believe that as long as the background music doesn't sound like it comes from a guitar or piano, it means that the entire song has been created from a computer, and for them, that just ain't real.

To all those people who have that much disrespect to Pop - balls to you!

What is pop music? Essentially, it is popular music. Although it has been associated with a bit of cheesy music now and then doesn't mean that it isn't serious, or that it wasn't written or sung from the bottom of the singers heart. Pop music includes Creed's Higher or U2's Beautiful Day. You might want to argue that those songs aren't Pop, they're rock. But that would just be a narrow scope of Pop. The songs became so huge they were impossible to ignore, and everyone knew the lyrics and they therefore are Popular. So why the hell are these Pop songs considered more real and superior to N'sync's Bye Bye Bye or Britney's Toxic?

The growing stigma has got to stop. The music has taken a beating and all I ever hear now on radio is rock bands trying to have a successful Pop song. I say - Fuck it. Don't let me hear it until it becomes popular, till more people have said 'Yeah, that sounds good.'. Don't get me wrong. I love Green Day's Holiday, Caesars' Jerk It Out , Good Charlotte's We Believe and songs that sound like that. Those are, in my honest opinion, good Pop songs. I'm fine with that. Songs that try to rock it out in the pretense of being cool deserve to be canned ASAP.

I've seen Pop music evolve in the past 6 years I've been observing the industry. Bands come and go, some make an impression, some don't. Some formats last (rap with singing female chorus ala Eminem's Stan to current songs like 50 Cents' Candy Shop), some don't (duets like Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey's When You Believe).

I celebrate songs that make it big, that more people can relate to. Don't tell me that charts don't matter and that they are fabricated for the industry, and record sales don't matter as long as you make 'real' music, and that people nowdays have bad taste because the cheerleading song Hollaback Girl is #1. Don't tell me that N'sync sold 2 millions albums in one week just because they looked cute and had a lot of teeny booper girl fans (it was off the strength of Bye Bye Bye). Don't tell me that they can't sing because if you're looking for real singing, I suggest listening to opera or choirs dammit. From the past to the present, music is most meaningful when, in Madonna's words - it brings the people together.

So if you're bopping to the Spice Girls' Wannabe, crying to Joey McIntyre's Stay The Same, dancing to Backstreet Boys' Larger Than Life, grooving to Madison Avenue's Don't Call Me Baby, singing to a1's Same Old Brand New You or panting to Britney's I'm A Slave 4 U, be proud of it! Pop is always cool. It's never outdated. I'm sure some of the titles bring back memories of time in school, or out having fun. It doesn't have to be something the singers wrote themselves or that they played their own instruments to. It's about feeling GOOD. Meaningful lyrics are a plus, but personally, I don't give a damn if the song sounds good.

Do you ever wonder why
This music gets you high
It takes you on a ride
Feel it when your
Body starts to rock
Baby you can't stop
And the music's all you got
Baby come on

This must be - Pop

Someday ( I Will Understand )

Creative Zen Micro!

Yeah! And this is my new toy, the $359 Red Zen Micro! Wooohoooo!!!

I LOVE IT!

Had a very enjoyable time buying it at Funan yesterday with Vanessa. As you can see from the picture, or maybe not, I went to the beach today with my family. I was kind of obsessed with my Zen Micro, it was really worth every cent to me and it's my biggest purchase on a single item till now. I've already gotten 371 songs into it and I put it on shuffle. It was such a delight to listen to all those songs.

Lying down on the ground sheet and just staring into the sky (as well as taking tonnes of photos) cleared my mind of all the stress I have to face in the coming week. I'll be doing more beach-ing around in the future I guess! One reason why I wanted an mp3 player compared to a discman is so that I can cycle or run with it and it wouldn't skip. I suppose it is a worthy investment and I'm going to have so much fun with it. Pity I can't bring it into camp tho. Boo!

I am so running out of time to write this, in fact, I only have 30 minutes left to get my butt out of the house!

I know there's a lack of stuff on my blog this week, but come back next week and I promise that I'll be up on my ass trying to get the best entertainment news, music and stuff about me. Till then ladies and gentlemen, stay safe and Keep Your Cool! 0716!

Update

I'm quite sick. Got a terrible flu. I'm feeling weak all over. I believe I've finished using a few hundred packets of tissue. Anyway, will be going out to lunch with my family later instead of initial plan of going to the beach.

There'll be updates coming soon, except that I'm a bit busy now.

I bought something real expensive and worked great as retail therapy! Wooohooo! More on that, later!

In The Army

Here's a pic of me and my section mates together with Sgt Chin during field camp. In some ways it was what I expected - no bathing, the punishments and learning what it was to be a soldier I guess. Looking back at the photos, we had fun and bonded quite well together. Even though we don't really meet up nowadays, looking at all the faces now brings back tonnes of memories and the feeling of a unique friendship we forged while going through the exhausting route marches and constantly having to change the position of our basha.

I honestly don't think I'll have a chance to do something like that again, because even in my current course, there's very little chance of outfield. Also, Tekong is a rather beautiful island (the irony!) and some things that are experienced there cannot be done elsewhere.

I can't be doing 'outrageous' stuff such as going outfield for 7 days in a row in the future so I can only look back and cherish the memories of the things that happened before. Haha...

Becoming a soldier from a civilian is not easy. I believe people still think of me as the same person before I went to NS, so I guess they can't imagine me holding an M16, doing pumping or marching for that matter. Every week I still yearn to book out badly and do my own stuff. However, now I hardly think of escaping from NS, because there's no way for me to do so. Questions like 'Why am I here?' pop up less frequently in my brain.

Great the memories may be, priceless the chance to hold a rifle is, but I can't help looking forward to the end.

ORD.

Britney is Chaotic!

A week is enough for plenty of crazy things to happen. And Britney's private life as well as her career, is chaotic. Here's some news from yahoo.com:

NEW YORK, June 8 /PRNewswire/

"Someday (I Will Understand)" the new single from Grammy Award winning artist Britney Spears is shipping June 14 to radio. The video directed by Michael Haussman will premiere on the season finale of Britney and Kevin: Chaotic June 14.

"Someday (I Will Understand)" was penned by Britney Spears. The song was produced by Guy Sigsworth. Britney Spears has sold over 60 million albums worldwide since her debut album in 1999.

I believe that this song will be rather Everytime-esque, and I've heard from many people that they like the ballad because it sounds so different and uncharacteristic of Ms Spears. Therefore I'm hoping that this will be another big hit for her. Here's a remix of Everytime in case you're looking for a fresh perspective of the song: http://s15.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0OS3NJJZAON1033E9IJ6K6PYM

Also, it's been a year since Britney fell and injured her knee while filming the dance sequence to the fourth single off ITZ - Outrageous. The release of the single was cancelled and her world tour was postponed, before being cancelled. It changed the course of her career (My Prerogative had to be filmed with no dance sequences at all) and disappointed her European fans. However, it also gave her an opportunity to get away from the limelight, work on her personal life and get married to Kevin Federline. She was down, but not out.

When you least expect it, she'd be up to something.Posted by Hello

Last Post of the Week

"Time is nothing
But what you make of it
Life has meaning
If only you reflect on it "

That'll be the quote from me this week. And I'm proud to say that I live up to this. I had the chance to go overseas twice in two years and I went to do something meaningful and came back more matured and more aware of things around me. This was taken in OCIP Myanmar last year.

It's been a tough week, not because of the training, but because of the lack of it. We went to put up decorations for SAF day and we had to sit around and wait for hours. That's where I had the chance to write the poem 'Wasted'. You can scroll down if you've missed it. It describes exactly how I felt at that time. Other than that I'm grateful for my new pal Sidney for being there when I needed someone to complain to about getting 50 pumping or almost having to book out on Saturday. You rock! Hope your butt feels better already ya!

This weekend hasn't been euphoric, but it has certainly been a high. I went out to watch Madagascar with Si Hua and her boyfriend as well as Sequeena. Sequeena and I went to the temple to pray, eat at the hawker and then went to Sim Lim Square to look at gadgets. After that I met Jie Yu and had an amazing shopping trip. Met a lot of people along the way - Alan, Wee Teng, Zhi Wei and his two girl friends, Shao Hao and Charles... maybe a few others I forgot to mention. HELLO! Haha, to Jie Yu, congratz on picking up that orange-long-sleeved Nautica shirt boyo! It was worth it. We shopped all the way from Wheelock, Far East, Wisma, Taka, Heeran finally went to Cine for dinner. Oh, and I had education on my first-ever meal at Subway. Fantastic stuff. He left first and I took my time to shop for an hour by myself.

Today I went out with Van and we went to KBox at Jurong East. Ate the Delifrance there for lunch. After that we went to IMM to shop for tonnes of stuff. Enjoyed spending time with her.

Okay, that'll be all for this weekend. Thanks to you guys for visiting my blog, really appreciate it. Till the next book out, stay safe and Keep Your Cool! 0636! Posted by Hello

One and a half years later, an analysis of ITZ by Cornflake

...Fresh, new, cool urban sounds on the the off-beat, top productions full of thudding impact but sung with a knowing, subtle, sexy purr. I had never heard anything quite like it - and I still haven't. Now it sits on top of my heap of most-played albums and I think it's one of the best.

Most vocalists are like actors who chew up the scenery, over-dramatising every little word and gesture. Britney is all understatement, the art that conceals art. No yelling, no 20-second notes, no climaxes, no grand finales. Instead, In The Zone is a feast of quiet little pleasures, moments that pass you by if you're not listening closely. I'm not going to tell you what they are unless you ask. But really, if you don't get them you don't deserve to.

When ITZ came out, it didn't get a great reception from the critics. But that wasn't because it was bad - it was because the critics were still obsessed with the idea of Britney the teeny pop girl trying to grow up - and, of course, bound to fail. Most of the reviews scarcely touched on the music - they were snide little essays based on the assumption that she was past her sell-by date and it would be terminally uncool to say anything good about her.

Things have changed. The critics still fulminate over the moral shortcomings and intellectual failings of Britney the woman, but a grudging respect has grown for her music. If ITZ was released now, nobody would be laughing...

Nicely written by Cornflake and I agree wholeheartedly.Posted by Hello

Gwen Stefani - Hollaback Girl

This sh!t is bananas! B-A-NAN-A-S!!!
This sh!t is bananas! B-A-NAN-A-S!!!

I'm sure that sounds more than familiar. I don't know why people think the song is overplayed on radio. In my opinion, the song cannot be overplayed. Gwen Stefani's third single off L.A.M.B. rocks. There's no question about it. Hollaback Girl has spent 4 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and it's been a long time since a female solo artist has taken the top spot. She's currently at #2 for a second week, overthrown by Mariah Carey's WBT though. The song is wild, unapologetic and unconventional. A trick that only a veteran in the business could pull off. Also, the fact that everything she does is looked upon as cool prevented this song from being a laughing stock, and this track has turned into some massive anthem for cheerleading.

There's been a lot of discussion over her recent work because it doesn't sound like anything who could've come from the girl who sang Spiderwebs or Ex-Girlfriend. She was supposed to be the rock chick. But she's shown that she can be a pop singer too. She's unleashed this side of her with this solo album, her sound reflecting every bit of her personality - funky, spontaneous and fresh. Sure, this move has upset No Doubt fans, with many not being able to accept her solo style of music. However, her music has drawn new fans to her. L.A.M.B. (2.0million) has outsold every No Doubt album in the USA with the exception of Tragic Kingdom (7.9 million) and Rock Steady (2.7 million). I love her solo style and I'm enjoying every minute of her music.

Madagascar

It is essentially a movie for the kids. It is a one full of cliche themes, but the animation and witty subplots serve as a drive to make this movie a notch above the rest. However, beneath the surface of the plot designed to entertain the kids, part of the movie touched me deep inside.

The lion was starving. He was so hungry that he was about to eat his zebra friend. Therein lies the conflict: Whether or not to harm your friend to keep yourself alive.

I suppose this question is relevant to everyone's lives, at work or at school. Of course, being the feel-good movie that it is, the lion saved the day in the end, abstained from zebra-meat and was served sushi. Someone once told me that humans are selfish, but I've always disagreed. I've always believed that it's better to give than to take and sometimes to the extent that I value others' happiness above mine. I won't say that I'm selfless, but I'm definitely not selfish. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that not every relationship can withstand the challenges brought forth in life and you value some people more than others.

When faced with the dilemma of hurting your friend to gain the upper hand in life, will you choose to do it? Posted by Hello

Wasted

Broken glass
Drops of blood
A dead rose
Dried petals with mud

Time is nothing
But what you make of it
Life has meaning
If you bother to reflect on it

Shattered windows
Rain crashing in
A toppled wine glass
A deadly sin

Minute by minute
Life ebbing away
Time passses slowly
As the mind runs astray

Punishment,
Fear.
Take me away.
Trapped,
Lost.
Need an escape.
Hope,
Gone.
Please take me away.
Time,
Wasted.
I need an escape.
Life,
Worthless.
I need to be free.
Destiny,
Unfulfilled.
Don't let it be.

Time is nothing
But what you make of it
Life has meaning
If only you reflect on it

Shards of glass
Dripping with blood
A solitary soul
So lost and so alone
