Time Table

And so this is how my time table looks like:

tt

Guess I'll have a lot of time to slack around, but I plan to use my time wisely and study, because staying in hall means there'd be a lot of playing after school hours. I guess it shouldn't be too difficult to study when it's time to study and play when it's time to play! I'm not going to limit myself from having fun, at the same time I'll take my work seriously. I think I've got enough discipline for that. Hopefully.

Ooh, and I can also start to jio people to have meals with me!

There seems to be no way around the timetable, especially after I added my electives. I'm really frustrated that I only learned to use STARS later than my peers and the fact that I didn't get everything ready before everybody else doomed me to having a crappy timetable. I'll be teaching tuition after school on Wednesday and Thursday as well as Friday morning. Responsibility sucks. Then there's the pageant thing. I'll be going down to Queensway with the guys this evening to do fitting for our formal wear, and 9AM at Orchard tomorrow to do a photoshoot. I'll be having tuition for the whole of Sunday before going back to hall.

My schedule is freaking packed, but at the same time I don't want to miss out on hanging around with the new friends I've made in hall. Tough stuff. I guess that's what being a freshie's about - feeling your way around and trying to find the balance between work and play.

The fun thing about hall is that you're always on your toes, doing stuff spontaneously. It's almost impossible to plan for anything. I enjoy playing sports as well, so I'm having lots of fun with that.

I wonder if I sound repetitive! It seems that I'm talking about hall, hall, hall and nothing else now. Ooh, and they've dropped a lot of cool comments on friendster as well! Haha... Feel so touched.

Taipei 101

I've ran out of stamina to continue the entries on Taiwan so this'll be the last entry to wrap up the entire trip. It'll be short, it'll be brief and most importantly... it'll contain photos. Okay, I'm talking trash.

01

We visited Long Shan Temple.

01

And the 228 Memorial Hall. We had a rather long history lesson there by this lady in her mid-forties. It came to life with all the exhibits and I felt that I learnt a lot.

01

On the way back to the hotel...

01

You really wish you had a taste of this, don't you?

01

And here we are somewhere near the top floor of Taipei 101! The phone thingy is rather useful. At every section there's a number allocated so all you've got to do is punch it into the phone and it'll tell you what there is to look out for as well as a bit of background knowledge about the place.

01

The view was awesome, but I think there'd be much more to see in the day. You can't actually see things like the mountains and stuff like that!

01

We went to the 24-hour bookstore called Eslite. It's very near Taipei 101! And here's Terence posing with Stella. Her poster was black and white so I decided to shoot the entire thing in black and white too.

01

We had lunch at Xi Men Ding the next day. This place's called Curry Delight, and the food was one of the best I've tasted. Fantastic stuff. I ordered two servings because I was starving but I barely managed to finish them.

01

This is how they promote new TV dramas. Kind of cool... Something you don't see in Singapore.

I know this is a bit of anti-climax but that's it for the trip to Taiwan. I would like to go into more detail but it's too far back that I can't remember everything and anyway, there's blogging to be done about the present! I'd love to go back there in the future if given the chance. It's worth exploring one more time.

JASH

01

I just had to put up one of the few photos of my room that I took just before orientation. This is how my wardrobe looked like. It's far emptier now, with unwashed clothes in the laundry and washed clothes hanging out to dry. A complete mess, but well, lucky there's a good selection! Haha...

The timeline for blogging is a little jumbled. I'll save orientation talk for next week. This week I went back on Sunday and our little group made our way to The Sun, but we didn't buy anything interesting in the end! It was sort of going purely for the sake of going! Before that Daniel, Joyce and I hung out at the basketball court and shot some hoops.

Monday was the first day of lectures and it was kind of strange to be in class again. It kinda sucked that I didn't know many people because I didn't attend school camp, but I chatted with a couple of old friends like Ahmad and Terence, whom I've not had the chance to talk to since we graduated from Sembawang Sec. It's great to see him around, and he's the kind of guy with quiet brilliance, and I've no doubt in my mind he'll do well for the course. I can't say the same for myself though! Anyway, I kind of stuck around with Wei Hao's SP Kristle, and we went back to hall after that lecture.

There was another interesting lecture on public speaking where I enjoyed myself tremendously. I need to really learn how to think on my toes though, I'm not really good at that! I am grateful for the chance to speak up in class though.

After that there was the rush to change and meet for JASH. It took really long to get everyone into the bloody auditorium though, so we took the chance to take a couple of photos.

01

And these are the handsome young men of Tin Tin! There's an unmistakable glow of happiness, which I think is kind of cool that we're so chummy around each other.

We went into the audi for a short screaming competition before fighting with everyone else for the food. I met Yu Min (her in long hair kind of shocked me - gorgeous) , who dragged me to Bing Xiang and we had a little chat. It was a buffet but all the trays were scrapped empty before we could have our third helping. It didn't help that we were nearer the desert section and used ridiculously small plates to place our food, but we had teamwork and I think we got to taste all the good stuff.

01

Then KKJ came and blew everyone away with their version of Umbrella. They had a good time slot and performed really well. The same could not be said of the performers after them. Poor Amber got jeered just before their last song - the impatient crowd was waiting for some "real" music.

And we got it in the end! We danced for a couple of hours. I saw a couple of old friends, from Kenneth to Terence, to acquaintances I knew in RVHS, Zhan Xing, whom I think didn't really recognise me, and one of my oldest best friends from RV, Jia Hui whom I met in the toilet. He was looking at me while I was peeing. I didn't quite recognise him either... but yeah. It was ridiculous, funny, and it was just a really special moment. He's in his hall pageant too. I'm not really surprised by that though!

I enjoyed partying the night away with my OG. We were the biggest group left and we partied all the way till it ended. I loved the music, RnB and pop. I thought it was a sin that they left out Britney but they played Rihanna twice, so that made up for it! I danced till my muscled cramped up so badly that I was kneeling on the floor at some point. I enjoyed the attention. The alcohol was great, and we downed jug after jug, again and again. I feel that it's an activity that is cool to share with people you're comfortable with. Once someone bought a jug, there'd be like 10 straws in it and us guys would stick our heads together and drink like mad before stopping and handing it over to the girls, and then going at it again before eating the ice.

And why doesn't anybody believe that I've only been clubbed twice! NVM, MTV has taught me well! ;)

01

We were pretty zombified after that. I enjoyed every moment of it though, and I'm not sure when we'll get a chance to do it again. I mean, the environment is kind of different. You know you're in the safety of the school still, and that your room is within walking distance and there isn't a need to spend so much money, nor impress strangers.

I appreciate the group of girls appreciating my booty shaking though. Just don't say it so obviously behind my back lar! SHY LEI!

I still had an 830 lecture the next day, which was quite hellish because I wanted so badly to sleep and the lecturer was happily commenting on how late people sleep when they stay in hall, and that it has gotten worse through the years! After that I slept through most of the afternoon before going for dinner at Swensons with the pageant people. Initially I wanted to go back, but we all came back together to watch the pageant preparation videos from 2003 till present. It was kind of intimidating but I guess the message was just to have fun and enjoy the ride.

Accepted Daniel's invitation and played soccer, though I seriously don't think that soccer and I go well together. I don't know what's wrong with me though. I used to be anti-soccer, and then I started watching soccer (World Cup, Euro Cup) and now I'm playing it. After that Zhende, Kelvin, Shu Qi and I played volleyball. Ahhhh... damn cool.

Had McDs breakfast with Joyce and Daniel this morning. It was a really cosy breakfast... I don't know how to describe it, but it did feel like we've been doing this for a long time. Light humour, harmless gossip, and a filling breakfast... It was pretty much the last time I remember feeling happy for the day because all my tuition kids tried their darndest to make me die of anger today.

Fun

I can't even start to describe how much fun I'm having nowadays. I'm enjoying the company, I'm enjoying the activities, I'm enjoying the environment... It's amazing. It's almost everything that I expected University life to be and I most certainly wouldn't have missed it for anything in the world. I've studied so hard and it's worth it - I'm glad I made it to NTU.

I have time to blog, but I haven't got a laptop to blog on. There'll be a few entries or at least photos coming up soon because I won't be in hall till Sunday. When I've got that laptop, I'll be blogging much more frequently. To end off, here's a photo from Monday, just before my OG, Tin Tin, rocked JASH.

Hall 12 FOC

FOC was a blast. I know how everyone says that you've to go for at least one camp in Uni so that you'd get to know people and all that. Well, the camp allowed me to meet a lot of new people and get acquainted with hall culture. On top of that I learnt even more about interacting with people. I had plenty of opportunities to express myself and I also discovered more about myself after all that we were put through, so I guess it's a very fulfilling camp.

We went through all the stuff that was rather typical of all camps. There was a day for a walk around school in the form of a race, the Initiation, Sentosa, pool games, Junior vs Senior, SP night, fright night and everything else! The initiation was kind of tough, physically, so the relief that I felt when it ended was incredible. I did enjoy most of the stations, it's just that the fact that it was carried out after midnight and we were freezing and wet and blindfolded for 5 hours was just awful! But the worst physical torture for me was on the last day where we had to squeeze as many people as we could into a shower cubicle, and I happened to be the one right at the back, being pushed up against the protruding ceramic soap container, pressured on the chest and left with hardly any space for me to breathe. I felt like throwing up after that!

The people, the people, the people... I think the people were great, and I felt really comfortable talking to most of them. It's kind of crazy how all the games that we played caused us to click really well, even more so if they were competitive. I guess being united with a common purpose really makes people come closer together. At the same time it gives a chance for people to show what they're good at. I enjoyed Sentosa because of the volleyball segment, where I got a couple of serves over, and was impressed by how skilled Kelvin and Xuan were. I think I've found vball-mateys! Hahaha! Actually I enjoyed the rest of the games as well, despite being someone who's not really sports inclined! I suppose it's more of the teamwork and the fun that we had while playing.

There were a lot of moments where my alter-ego (makes me sound like I have a split personality) made his presence felt. It's kind of weird to talk about myself in third person since I'm not Yoda but I'll give it a shot. Ying Heng's the quiet, guai guy, and that's me most of time. Jason is the crazier guy who, talks crap to his seniors when blindfolded, sang Everytime in front of the James Bond girls, channelled Britney Spears when pushed into the centre of dancing freshies, and said yes to joining the hall pageant.

Again, I wish I had been a bit more of an extrovert and took more initiative instead of being reactive to situations. However, I think I did rather decently for this orientation. I've had people coming up to me and saying nice things about how I look, my singing and dancing, which, despite my appreciation, I take with a pinch of salt. I'm flattered by the attention and compliments, but I'm not going to let myself get caught up in it. I'm glad I have people who are supportive and at the same time they keep me grounded, especially by noticing (and telling me) how ugly my teeth look.

Okay, so now everyone'll be staring at my teeth!

Haha... I guess FOC is just the beginning of life in Hall. I can't wait to take part in all the activities in a new environment with new friends.
