Alright, so it was a rather crappy week because most of our time was spent rehearsing for the Engineers' Day Parade and it was really tiring. Although we had time time to rest when we returned to camp, we had to do stuff like maintain our arms, prepare our uniforms, boots etc and make them presentable. There was off to be given, but it wasn't worth it. A couple of good things came out of it though! On Monday, CSM told me that my hair was too long and wanted it cut on that night itself. Luckily I was not the only one. Samuel, Daniel and I booked out and went to Compass Point to get our hair cut. It was supposed to be somewhat like a punishment, because we were given limited time and had to rush in and out of camp. But we managed to - gasp! - buy some food back for our platoonmates as well as go shopping at Cold Storage, and then ate Sundaes and potato chips at Mcdonalds etc. It took away all the stress and exhaustion caused by the parade. Good stuff.
On Wednesday we had nights off but most of us decided to stay in bunk. There was a bit of exercising going on and we tried out Kenneth's new skipping rope. Hmm, it isn't too heavy, but is really nasty when you accidentally get hit by it. After that we went to the canteen. I realised that I don't like Katsu Mee any more. I could barely finish the meat, and before I had even finished eating 1/4 of it, I was already sick of the taste. Anyway, we were talking about some current talent shows and I just had to get some of my opinions off my chest. Arhm.
First up, Star Idol. A lot of people have been saying that Bryan won because he took off his shirt and had a good body to boot. If I'm not wrong, Leo said that he was going to work out a hell lot because he felt that he wasted his chance to win the competition despite the fact that his acting skills were on par with Bryan. However I watched the interview on Zhao An Ning Hao and I've got to say that Bryan's the more vocal of the two and he's got more of the X-factor.
His acting may not be fantastic, and cringeworthy at times, but there's no denying that with a bit of training, he's set to become the next big thing. His looks accounted for much of all the attention that he's been showered with but that's an advantage that he was born with, and it makes him more well-liked. Okay, so I voted for him when his votes were trailing behind Leo. He deserved to win anyway!
Oh yeah, and then there was Campus Superstar last week. Initially I was putting my money on Teresa to ace the competition. I sneakily wanted Renfred to emerge champ of the guy's category, but after the highly-challenging Kiss Goodbye, I had to admit that I would be able to accept the results with a clear conscience if Zhi Yang got in instead. And so he did. Both Teresa and Zhi Yang could sing. And I have to say that I don't really like Zhi Yang's voice; it would be nice if it were a tad more masculine. However, after the rather cutesy performance of Jun Yang and Teresa, I was up on my feet as I witnessed THE performance of the night.
Shi Xin Hui is damn chio. I was so excited when she came on stage, and she sounded great too. Sexy voice. I'll buy her CD the moment she releases. (Please not let it be full of dreary ballads.)
Also, it was then that Zhi Yang let himself go and performed on stage. I've had enough of them standing rooted to the ground and just singing. So it surprised me when they had a mini-music-video-moment during the performance. There was a bit of dancing and acting thrown in, while at the same time they both sounded bloody good. Okay, so they could've harmonised at the last chorus or something, but I just loved the performance. Flirty gazes, cheeky faces... And at some point of time they over-did it a little, but that's exactly what makes a memorable performance. Easily the highlight for the night for me. And so, I voted once for Zhi Yang to win. And he did!
Oops, there I go, a bit out of point. On Thursday after the Parade, I went for lunch with Sern Hong, Guo Fei, Ivan and YC at Causeway Point. It was rather entertaining, and after that YC and I left when the rest of them went to the arcade. Had a short chat with him and found out a lot of stuff when I talked to him. He's quite a knowledgeable person, despite being quite the joker in camp.
I went home just to realise that there wasn't anyone home and I didn't have my house keys. Then my phone batt was depleted. On top of all that, I had no money. I felt pathetic!!! So I was on super low-morale mode when I met Daniel and Terence at Yishun MRT station at 5PM to go to SAFRA for a swim. Did I mention that they were 20 minutes late?! Even more low-morale! Haha... Before that I went to play DDR and flopped terribly. Must have been the crappy mood. Anyway, we met Sern Hong at the pool, and they all managed to cheer me up tremendously when my mood was really at rock bottom. It felt like the whole world was against me (which continued because I had to pay for entry using a cashcard as my mother took my SAFRA card. They went around helping me ask for a cashcard. Such great friends.) Swimming there at night was amazing. The lights, the chill-out songs (Mariah and Whitney - When You Believe, Layla Kaylif - Shakespeare In Love) created a very relaxing atmosphere. Felt a lot better after the swim and we went to Yishun library to borrow books on Thailand for our trip. After that we went to a nearby coffeeshop for dinner, before being the first people (in the platoon) to book in, because we were exhausted and wanted to slam bed (platoon slang for sleep!) ASAP. It was a fantastic outing.
The reason we had to book in was because they couldn't cancel today's rations. That's really quite dumb, and we were all feeling rather pissed off with the world. But here I am, finally back at home after a rather long week! Phew!
Hmm, today there was somebody stirring my shit. He just doesn't know that I'm aware of the fact. I'm not impressed by his behavior.
Alright, I'm off to watch Desperate Housewives, all thanks to Samuel! I can't believe how big the show has become, yet I haven't caught a single episode of it!
