At #1 this week is probably another surprise. Reigning the chart is Fergie with Fergalicious. Although she did a fugged up performance of it (probably because she wasn't feeling too well, because usually it's way better) on the this week, it still fuelled my addiction for the song. Apparently, the performance is doing wonders for the single as well as it makes a leap from #10 to #4 on Billboard Hot 100 after previously peaking at #3. If you want to see what she's really capable of, you might wanna check out this performance. It's crazy how we all agree that the song isn't a proper song, lacks class, but secretly do a little dance to it in our on private time when the song is on! She's huge now - I bet anything she releases from The Dutchess will go Top 5 easily. She's got attitude and style but she needs to work on being desirable. I think that's her tripping stone.



Holding strong at #2 is Beyonce who is really blowing competition out of the water with Irreplaceable. This week she trumps the Billboard chart with the track. And there's another performance from her which you can view here. A song like this is really amazing for the Christmas spirit too. It sounds festive enough. Good choice Bee! Maybe you'll be able to get 5 singles from B-Day!



And there's no one else who currently has more singles from their album charting around the world. Loose has churned out Promiscuous (winner of Billboard Pop Single of the Year), Maneater and now Say It Right. The woman also has All Good Things (Come To An End), which moves from #13 to #4 on the UK Singles Chart, just as she announces her UK tour dates. She's certainly come a long, long way since I'm Like A Bird (which I detest). Cheers to the one of the biggest female artistes who helped shaped the face of Pop this year. (I'm sorry you're not one of them Christina.)



Anxious to show off what she's got before the year comes to a close is Gwen Stefani. I can safely say that Wind It Up (at #7 this week) is a song you'll either love or hate. There's no in between. I'm sure you can make a stand with regards to all the yodelling. She describes it as "a modern, trippy version of The Sound of Music". Her album, The Sweet Escape will be released next Tuesday. She continues to amaze with her unique fashion sense and stylistic performances. However, I really think she should go back to No Doubt once she finishes this project. Yeah, I'm tired of solo Gwen already!



And yes, I miss the voice that brought us I'm With You. 22-year-old (she's only 2 years older than me!) Avril Lavigne is back with the leading track from Eragon, Keep Holding On (#14). I love how she hits the unexpected high notes in the middle of the melody. It's so her. There's nothing you can SAY, there's nothing you can DO... Damn you've got to hear the song if you haven't! She's rumoured to be releasing new stuff next year, which I am really looking forward to. I want Nobody's Home Part II! I've got a love/hate relationship with her. She's private, music-making, tough, punk-rocker, girly, jewellery-wearing... Yeah, I don't really know her as a person, and that really sucks, but her music is top-notch. So I guess she's succeeded really well as a musician.

It just confirms the fact that I have a fetish for bimbotic songs. I have no idea why. I'm going to sing it the next time I have a chance to go to KBox. Watch out!

I just saw it on Billboard.com and I'm so incredibly excited! Ooh, and I've something to share - Victoria's Secret Fashion Show with Justin performing Sexyback and My Love/Lovestoned. Okay, I didn't just watch the performance. I watched the entire thing... HOT. The girls were really gorgeous. Now I know why girls give themselves a hard time when they see supermodels like these. They're goddesses!

This week's #1 is a shocker and I can find no evidence for my tastes! I haven't seen it impact on Billboard nor the UK chart. I've shocked even myself for falling for such a song - yeah, punk rock isn't really my thing. But with that being said, this isn't just another punk rock song. Good Charlotte's Keep Your Hands Of My Girl is refreshing and addictive.

There're a stunning number of new entries this week - 7 in fact. Christmas is coming and that's a good enough reason for big artists to make their presence felt, especially by releasing albums that are good enough to be found under the Christmas tree! This will definitely be more evident next week.

Anyway, to bring up the rear of the entry, here are the new songs that are gonna be released. Jay-Z - Lost Ones, Nelly Furtado - All Good Things (Come To An End), Muse- Knights of Cydonia, Killers - Bones, Lemar - Someone Should Tell You, Lostprophets - Can't Catch Tomorrow and Scissor Sisters - Land of Thousand Words.

I know you're more interested in what Fergie said that caused a stir in the music scene than what I was doing at Geylang at 2AM today, so let's get this shit started.

"In the closet, that's my stuff. Yes if I bought it, then please don't touch!" At #1 is Beyonce with Irreplaceable. It seems that she's really busy recently. After appearing on TRL last week, she made her way down to the UK. London specifically, for the World Music Awards. It was there that she performed Deja Vu (it was single of the year or something. I cannot confirm.). However, I'm not here to throw such a passe track into the limelight again. Irreplaceable was performed live on Strictly Come Dancing. Due to the unique nature of the performance, and that every time she does the song, there are slight differences, here's the link to it. The song's doing very well in most territories, most notably in the USA where it's at #4, earning the title of Greatest Gainer and Airplay Gainer; in the UK it's at #5 after peaking at #4; in Australia it's a new entry at #9. And I'm sure you can see the shock leap of 11 notches to claim the #1 on this chart!



At #5 is you-can-see-me-you-can-squeeze-me Fergie with Fergalicious. Well, there's not doubt that the song is fun, but when you see her perform live, it looks like any talentless bitch could do it because she just says the lyrics. She's errr, physically hawt and all, but yeah, it doesn't look very impressive. However, Fergie has taken time out to give a good smack to people like me by saying, "I may not have the type of voice you like, but I can sing. You can't take that away from me, 'cause singing is a gift from God, and when people say I can't sing, it's kind of like insulting God." Ooh, I'm sorry Fergie. I know you can sing and all, it's just that your singles aren't really showcasing your potential. A ballad for the 4th single perhaps?

At #7 are the All Saints, who are doing pretty well with their comeback single. However, midweeks suggest that their album may not even make it to the Top 40. They should've waited for another single to impact, really.



Time to dish the dirt on Justin Timberlake, who is at #10 this week with My Love. The track holds steady at #1 on Billboard for a third week. Strangely, the biggest news about the guy is his recent collaboration with Nelly (not the ugly rapper) and Timbaland, which is rumoured to be Timbaland's first single off his album. I have my doubts considering he only appears for a few seconds, while Nelly and Timberlake sing on most of it. Here's Justin's verse,

The first line is said to mock Janet on her track "So Excited" which does contain a certain amount of mumbling. The 3rd line is probably connected to their chart positions on Billboard (as with the very impactful, "We missed you on the charts last week, Damn that's right, you wasn't there."). The one that's most direct and obvious would be the 4th line, where she said, "Just let me clear the air" at the beginning of the Oprah interview, most of which you can witness here. Then there's also Prince, who was asked a few weeks ago what he thought about Timberlake's hit song saying he's bringing Sexyback. Prince replied "Sexy never left.".

At #19 is a new entry by Robbie Williams. I said last week that the guy's single's really addictive. However, it sort of reminds me of some of the tracks of Justin's album! Coincidence or not, I think Robbie is trying his best to revolutionise music, or at the very least not reuse old formulas for the sake of getting hits. His first single Rudebox is sufficient proof. He has had 2 huge Christmas hits (if I'm not wrong Angels and Somethin' Stupid with Nicole Kidman), so I am wondering what odds the punters will give for him to get to the top on the very distinguished X'Mas #1.

This might probably be my last proper chart. I've come to realise that my new job's going to eat up most of my life, which includes the time I spend finding out about music. Pop - being music that's the hottest of the moment - requires a bit of effort to keep up with. Anyways, this week's #1 is quite a shocker. It's more of a stomper actually. It is difficult for people living outside the UK to know what a phenomenon Girls Aloud are (I've wanted to live there since I was 13, so no issue about that.) They've been around for 4 years and have consistently churned out the hits. They have 13 Top 10 singles to date, with the current one choking the #3 position of the UK Singles Chart for the second week in a row. Unlike Mcfly's Star Girl, which was #1 last week and toppled to #9 this week, they have shown that their fanbase consists of more than the ordinary single-buying-teen demographic. The last time a UK act topped this chart was at the end of July, 15 weeks ago, in the form of Keane with Is It Any Wonder, who ownned it for 3 weeks. At #7 is Shannon Noll, a real gem from Australia whom I featured last week. (Seems that I'm ostracize US acts!) His music is a real inspiration, with titles like Lift and Shine. His previous single to chart was Now I Run, which he wrote about his father who died in a farm accident. He said that it was his best and he couldn't have written it better, and I agree. With lyrics like, "I'm just my father's son" and "He taught me to walk, but now I run", it's an inspiration and it really shocked me because I thought only the Chinese language could be used to write a song like that, and not sound cheesy. Think Jay Chou. If I'm not wrong, he's going to have a new single titled Don't Give Up featuring Natalie Bassingthwaighte. Because he makes music from his heart, I think he'll be around for a long time to come.



At #10 is Good Charlotte, my favourite punk rock band. They should be yours too! With slammin' past hits like The Anthem, Hold On, Predictable and We Believe, Good Charlotte are set to add another unforgettable single in their discography. Despite the cringe-worthy cameo in Material Girls (damn you Hilary), they're pushing the musical boundaries with something I haven't quite heard before. I guess this would go under vocoderised vocals (maybe a tad more than Madonna's Music), and there's much more "talking" than singing but it's an irresistible listen. "Let the record play..."

At #12 is Beyonce with Irreplaceable. Nothing much. I just want to share a video of her doing it live on TRL. She sings fantastic live. When she's not doing Ring The Alarm.

I don't think I have the stamina to type anymore, so we'll go straight into introducing the new songs that are going to find their way to the listening-public. Basement Jaxx - Take Me Back To Your House, Kasabian - Shoot the Runner, Depeche Mode - Martyr.



Oh, and Robbie Williams - Lovelight. Brilliant.

Ooh, and I just found out that Sugababes' Easy was written by Orson. No wonder it sounds so Lite!

PS - K-Fed has been forcibly thrown out of the chart. I don't think I need to give reasons. I'm a nice guy, I give people chances. Last straw. Oops.

I could not hide my feelings of triumph when I heard that My Love went to #1 on Billboard. The article for the chart screamed "Timerlake Scores Second Straight Hot 100 No. 1", a feat last achieved by Usher in 2004. The last 4 week champion on my chart was, coincidentally, Sexyback. Its run from JKYH Top 20 (57) was 1-1-2-3-2-1-1. The non-consecutive 4-week reign was broken by Orson's No Tomorrow and Fergie's London Bridge. I'll not be surprised if he scores another #1 if the right follow-up single from the album is chosen. FutureSex/LoveSounds is like a goldmine! It is rumoured to be What Goes Around (Comes Around) and the fake single cover has been doing its rounds on the net!



At #10 this week is Shannon Noll with Lonely. It peaked at #8 and is currently #13 on the Australian Singles Chart. If you're not familiar with him, you're forgiven. But if you choose to ignore his presence, you're not! He was a contestant on Season 1 of Australian Idol, and his previous single, Now I Run, also charted on the Top 20. You can check out his MySpace. With his soaring vocals and tender lyrics, it's a song that's definitely worth your time. "I look at the phone and pick it up, for the millionth time I put it down again. I know I let you go, and I got no right to know - Do you ever get lonely baby?"

At #11 this week, taking a jump up 8 is Fergie's Fergalicious. She's not the hottest female on earth despite that great body, but she sure knows how to keep music fun. More on her next week, but I'd just like to say I've proudly mastered the "rap" lines "T toda A toda S-T-E-Y Girl you tastey, D toda E toda L-I-C-I-O-U-S" in perfect rhythm with Will.I.Am.



After screaming her head off in Ring the Alarm, Beyonce settles for a more soothing sound that is just as catchy with Irreplaceable, this week's #18. Billboard says, "Beyoncé finally settles down enough to make a sensible record." while launch.co.uk exclaims that, "Beyonce herself has never sounded better, and this understated (a word not usually uttered in her presence) guitar-led ballad deserves to be Number One for the whole of November." I was awestruck the moment I heard it. It's one of those songs that get you on the first listen. From the minute she sings "To the left, to the left", you're hooked. The ambiguity of the lyrics leave you wanting to know more, and the melody's infectious.

The last song I'd like to draw your attention to is Akon featuring Eminem at #20 with Smack That. It's another rap ditty that goes on about getting some action in the club. I know that not many people out there are fans of rap, but this track's special to me because of the guest rapper Eminem. He's sort of retired from music, and even though he'll be working behind the scenes, I miss his presence as an artist. Just hearing his cheeky rap in this one will remind you of why Eminem was so huge when he was around.

Is it me or has Pop music got a kick back to life this week? It's been a long time since some new act came and took the scene by storm like Britney Spears did (so I'm a fan and I'll name-drop whenever I want to!), so it seems that old acts are what keep the current scene alive today. We see seasoned Pop acts who used to be part of a group (Justin Timberlake, Fergie, Beyonce), then the teen pop wave people (Christina, Jessica Simpson, Jolin) and of course those who've been around for a long time to begin with (Janet, Mary J Blige). It seems that they've flying the flag for Pop pretty well. Ooh, and the new songs I've got to introduce this week are really adrenaline-pumping. Goodness.

#1 needs no introduction, and if I do it again I'll probably get shot. I'll keep it simple and bring your attention to the fact that Justin's two songs are back-to-back on the Billboard chart. Sexyback is at #4, while My Love moves up 3 to #5. It's been a long time since anyone had 2 tracks in Top 5 territory. Billboard states, "Justin Timberlake occupies two adjacent positions in the top five of The Billboard Hot 100, the first artist to have a pair of hits in the top five since Mariah Carey occupied the top two in September 2005." I have no idea what's the next single going to be, but I guess the management's excited about how well the album and the current single is doing, so it'll be some time till it is released.



At #8 this week is probably the guy who has the most kids in the chart. If there was a chart where we'd rank the singers according to how many kids they have, K Fed can proudly say he's got 4, with the youngest one who popped out about a month ago. His album Playing With Fire drops on Halloween, 31st October. I demand ya'll show him some love because he's getting beaten up on WWE just to promote his joint (well he did get revenge a few days later). In a desperate attempt to get you to try to listen to his shizzle, Britney told me to offer you a listen to a track she worked with him on, called Crazy. I think it will eventually be a single, but if it flops, ouch for Britters. Someone says it sounds like the P Diddy/Christina collaboration. It's somewhere there. There's a rather decent performance of Privilege on youtube but I can't find it any more. Ya haters would probably tell me cos it's too bad to be on there. Bah.

Gosh, I'm at a lost. I don't know who to talk about already. There's a certain staleness due to the same acts clogging up the chart. Whatever then. New songs this week.

Moby feat Debbie Harry - New York New York. Isn't Debbie Harry someone famous? Like from Blondie? It sure sounds like. Whatever it is, it's superb! Heck, I think I'll check up on it. And I'm right! It's amazing that she's still making music at 61. This isn't by any means a very unique track, but hearing her voice again makes me feel so alive. I just can't describe it. Wow.

Gwen Stefani - Wind It Up. Hot mess, not sure if I like it or not.



Good Charlotte - Keep Your Hands Off My Girl. Another fantastic track from the band. It's the most surprising stuff they'd ever come up with. They're my favourite punk-rock band of the moment. There isn't a single from them that I don't like. Hot. The video is surprisingly sleek and grown up. The dressing included. A bit less punk, a whole lot more class.

Ciara - Promise. I know I've intro-ed it awhile ago, but this is another song which is unique. It sounds like nothing out there. Check the video out on youtube. It's a wicked Usher-ish video - groove music with nifty dance steps.

Other tracks include The Killers - Bones, Jamelia - Beware of the Dog, Mcfly - Star Girl, Amy Winehouse - Rehab, Hot Chip - Over and Over, and their first single in over 10 years, Take That - Patience, and as a mark of irony, Robbie Williams - Lovelight.

This week's chart is probably the most inaccurate reflection of my music taste - possibly because I haven't been listening to any of them (cos I've been beach bumming)! That aside, it's time to feed you with news of what's going on with the music world.

At #1 on my chart this week is Timberlake with My Love. There're so many aspects of the song that are constantly being discovered in my mind. Be it the prelude to the song (which you can hear on the album or the music video), the guest rap, the falsetto verses followed by the repetitive, insistent chorus where he mentions the title again and again, everything about this track is fresh. Sexyback has been usurped on Billboard by Ludacris and Pharrell's Money Maker. However, My Love continues to ascend and this week, makes its way into the Top 10, moving up 5 notches to #8. I think it has the potential to hit #1 but not if he continues to look like this!

#3 must have come as a shock for many. The track has been grinding nerves since its release. I was rather neutral when I first heard it on radio, just surprised that the track managed to make it to the airwaves - after all, it is merely lifted from the soundtrack of the movie of the same name. The most hilarious bit is that the girls actually say Fast and Furious but it's so well-hidden under the Japanese accent that it's almost impossible to figure out! I heard it at Sentosa yesterday and I started grooving along while playing in a volleyball match. Its gotten to me on many levels - come on! What's there not to like about it!


At #12 is Christina Aguilera, a non-mover there with Hurt. I like the song more everyday, and I think this is her biggest scremer-hit yet. It does annoy me sometimes (at least Jessica Simpson has stopped yelling!) and despite the vocal prowess, her (growly) tone doesn't appeal to me. Whatever it is, she looks incredible on the set of P.Diddy's new single Tell Me. It seems that she's gone back to this Urban look, that'd be how I'd expect her to dress after coming from the Come On Over era. Not Dirrty, nor Ain't No Other Man. Anyway, Tell Me is a smoking hot song, where she uses her voice to fulfill P Diddy's musical vision (for once in a long time not her own!). And I like it. I hope she does more of it in her next album, because seriously her "blast from the past" thing is way overdone and overemphasized this time around. I love reflective lyrics and all, but there's just something incredibly hawt about her purring "I know you gonna like it, tell me how you want it." in Tell Me. Next album Christina. That's how I want it.


I prefer hard rock to lite rock. Lite would be Orson and Snow Patrol. Hard would be this week's debuts at #18 and #19 featuring Hinder and Nickelback. We all know Nickelback and their songs manage to outlast every rock act there is of late. Paperback? How You Remind Me? They make songs that you can hear over and over again and never get tired of. On to Hinder (pictured), who have been making huge waves on Billboard with their second single Lips of an Angel. Their first single, Love Stoned, went largely unnoticed by the pop scene. However with this track, they're set to become the biggest new rock act of the year. I love how it sounds - typical, but fantastic nonetheless!

And everyone wants to know who'll be rocking the charts in future weeks, so let's start with the biggest name of them all Emma Bunton - Downtown, Jay Z - Show Me What You Got, The Wreckers - My Oh My, Rogue Traders - Watching You, T.I. - Live In The Sky, Outkast - Idlewild Blue and Imogen Heap (!!!) - Headlock. I know all important record execs are reading this when I said that "someone please tell Justin that he's not going to take #1 on my chart if he doesn't come out with a video soon". I didn't hear any news of him actually recording a video, but it was sneakily released two days ago. You can see it here. It reminds me a bit of Rock Your Body with the lights and camera angles. Combining powers with Timbaland and T.I. on this track as well as the video, it will most certainly be popular in Hip Hop and R&B circles. That being said, I think there is no argument (just like no one should argue with Toxic) that the song is a force to be reckoned with. Incorporating rap into music filled with synth-heavy dance beats, Timberlake switches between his normal voice and signature falsetto to announce his undying love for, well, his love. My favourite lyrics of the song are the images that are conjoured, "I can see us holding hands, walking on the beach our toes in the sand. I can see us on the countryside, sitting on the grass laying side by side." Team Justin! (Not that there's any competition nowadays.) On the Billboard Hot 100, Sexyback is still #1, while My Love climbs 3 to #13 and is awarded Airplay Gainer yet again.



At #8 and #9 are Paris Hilton and Teriyaki Boyz with Nothing In This World and Be In Tokyo respectively. I've been stuck in camp for 4 days this week (only 2 other people in my platoon can claim to have done that) and so radio had a big influence on this week's chart. I have a feeling that Hilton Hotels sponsored 98.7's music directors to a full week at their suite. I've heard Nothing In This World no less than 3 times a day. Be In Tokyo has been on heavy rotation at the radio station and shows no sign of letting up! Don't take the songs too seriously, and you'll love them. Seriously. Wait. I'm still in shock that Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton are talking to each other. Best friends again?



At #10 and #11 are Girls Aloud and All Saints. I have no idea why I'm commenting on the tracks in pairs and that coincidentally, they chart alongside each other, but here's the link between these two acts - they've gotten into a bitch fight. This week there's more gossip on my chart than there is music! Cheryl Cole of GA said, "The new All Saints sound just sounds just like us.". The All Saints, which Naaman commented "are absolutely BITHCES that despise EACH OTHER at the best of times!" hit back, with Shaznay Lewis saying, "In all honesty they are stupid little girls and we don't really give a f***. That's the end of that." I know you just want to know more about the bitchfight.



I could not be convinced, despite being prodded plenty of times by people with lots of music cred, that the Scissor Sisters' new song was likeable. Don't get me wrong, I did try. I had it on my play list for close to 2 months or so, and deleted it just last week. I gave up completely; I just didn't get it. However, when it got played on radio when I was doing A Maths in bunk this week, my brain clicked, I got hooked on from beginning to end, singing along in falsetto and promptly embarrassing myself in the process. The Scissor Sisters' are of course, huge in the UK with their single dipping to #2 after reigning at #1, and their album also dipping to #3 after peaking at #1. They're unbelievably camp with this song, and I like it, just like I did Filthy/Gorgeous and Take Your Mama.

New tracks to look out for this week Ciara - Promise, U2 & Green Day - The Saints Are Coming and Corinne Bailey Rae - Like A Star. Shockingly and disappointingly enough, that's all I've got this week. I'll make it up with a juicy piece of info - Fergie's London Bridge is actually about 4-person sex. Janet reigns at #1 with So Excited. I've always been a big fan of her uptemp tracks. And I think she lost it with Just A Little While, but still, there's much to be mentioned about her strong grip on Pop music. All For You, Someone To Call My Lover, Doesn't Really Matter are just some of the songs which made her relevant to the scene and this track does exactly the same thing. I think I'd be hard pressed to find someone who makes dance so hard-core. Check out the wicked performance of this track as well as Call On Me and Nasty right here.

Oh, and someone please tell Justin that he's not going to take #1 on my chart if he doesn't come out with a video soon. My Love is #2 on my chart for a third week in a row. The song is steadily climbing up the Billboard charts, honoured with the title of Airplay Gainer, and moves up 9 to #16 this week. He is of course still tops with Sexyback for a sixth week running.

At #12 is Girls Aloud with Something Kinda Ooh. It's a thundering dancefloor track that's no doubt in the same vein as their previous singles. These ladies can sing. So when you combine powervocals with power music, you get music that makes you want to go ooh! This is the leading track off their upcoming Greatest Hits album, which is a dual disc release. I've seen the tracklisting and I would like to announce my SHOCK at them having a track titled Singapore. Everybody say it with me, "What the FUCK?!" I'm not angry or anything, but if the song's named after my country, it better be good loves, or risk incurring my wrath. I'm not joking. I need to lay my hands on the song ASAP. The Sugababes are one of the 3 UK acts who debut their leading singles from new albums this week. At #17 is Easy, which is also one of the few tracks off their Greatest Hits. Titled "Overload: The Singles Collection", it's set for release on the 13th November. You can take a look at the video here. I think the concept of black is really classy and the Sugababes have outdone themselves again with this track. Sultry and sexy. Love the lyrics too! "I want sex on the beach and I don't mean on the rocks."

New tracks that deserve a mention this week include David Hasselhoff - Jump In My Car, India.Arie - There's Hope, Lil' Chris - Checkin' It Out, Simply Red - Oh What A Girl, LeAnn Rimes & Brian Mcfadden - Everybody's Someone, Jesse McCartney - Right Where You Want Me, The Streets - Pranging Out... And shockingly enough that's it! Well, pop's most brilliant have already done their utmost for the scene seeing that in recent times all these familiar acts (Timberlake, Beyonce, All Saints, Aguilera, Girls Aloud) who have a decent track record have managed to put something out there. There're chart battles to be fought and albums to be bought. Till next week!
