Dirrty Rich

If happiness is riches then I'm feeling filthy today. Filthy rich.

I also have a filthy shirt which I wore to volleyball training laying in the corner. I was only there for about an hour or two and I had the craziest workout, running all over the court and being the setter - a position that up till now has been alien to me. It was nerve-wrecking and exhilarating at the same time.

I was happy. Happy like a dog chasing a bone. Nothing was on my mind because nothing was more important than keeping the ball up in the air. That intense concentration and clarity of mind is hard to come by.

I relish every moment of it.

I'm "half bucket of water" in everything I do. Usually when I start something, I'll try my best to finish it. That's how I got my Grade 8 in piano - sheer hard work. I'm not really talented in anything, at least not that I know of. I don't play the piano any more. With volleyball, I knew I loved it a lot, but I never knew I'd take it this far, that I'd still be playing it now.

Of course it wouldn't have been possible without all the fantastic people who came down, organised it and set up everything. Teh peng, Karyn, See Keng, Wei Yang, Christine and Pedro.

Especially to Ruiqi and Edwin. It still strikes me as inexplicably, unbelievably coincidental that we play volleyball.

And I guess it's just another one of those things that makes 'us' more magical.

Add. Drop.

Image & Sound Production, Media Presentation and Performance, Genre and Narrative Strategies.

The start of second semester of Year 2 feels like the midpoint of University life in SCI is rushing towards me with unmistakable haste. It's like a midlife crisis - dramatic self-doubt resulting from the passing of being a freshie and the immenence of graduation.

Why am I taking EBM mods when I plan to specialise in PR?

The only answer I can give is interest. I don't even, for a moment, think I'm going to do particularly well. And given last sem's results that's what I should be doing this sem. The worst part is I don't even know if I'd do well if I take Creative Strategies or Interpersonal Communication instead.

The good thing is my current timetable is that it's from Monday to Wednesday.

The mods that I plan to take in the future include film editting, film history, voice production or singing, creative writing (playwriting, deja vu!), complete my minor in Theatre and Performance... when I should probably be taking a minor in business.

I've got my head up in the clouds.

I shall thus continue to indulge in my interests before getting back on track in the next two years. I shall spam all my AUs and take 7 out of the 12 PEs from the PR track. The mods at the Upper Level look more interesting anyway.

It sounds like I'm trying to convince myself more than anyone else.

(On a sidenote Media Presentation & Performance and Image and Sound Production are of PR too. Therefore from the 8 PEs of Lower Level PR, I would've taken 4! Hopefully ignoring the more theoretical modules won't cripple me later on.)

What hurt me more than anything was that I wasted my AUs on Org Comm last year. I didn't learn anything and I tried to stay afloat through everything by doing the minimal and I ended up getting nothing from the course. I've wasted my school fees!

Let's not even talk about my epic F from Sem 1.

Hopefully this sem I will DO WELL in stuff that I'm interested in as opposed to last sem where I did things that I was interested in (hi, acting and graph comm) and sucked at it.

Grrr...

OHFUCKIT.

We had an awesome time celebrating Qiqi and Yueting's birthday. There were presents that were appreciated and chardonnay that left us frustrated. We managed to drink it after borrowing a cork-opener from Yue's neighbour. It's not really my kind of drink and it would've tasted better with food!

We had a hell lot of fun at this other condo. I don't know what's the name but it had a non-stop blast of breeze / gale. The condo faces the National Indoor Stadium so it is kind of out in the open. It's beautiful. It's spacious.

My new life's dream / target is to acquire one of the apartments there.

Sang many, many songs, accompanied by the big three of fast food, Mcdonalds, KFC and Pizza Hut. A capella-ed Lean Back. That was fucking awesome. There were also other great songs... I think we're the only people who can create a song out of nothing so spontaneously! Haha...

I enjoyed myself thoroughly. The wind blew my face, through my hair and sent all my troubles to a faraway place.

Multi-tasking

q01

I love this photo because it shows that I can take photos of small objects and eat squid head from Old Chang Kee at the same time!

Actually it's cos it's the first time I think my side view looks nice.

HAHA!

2009

This is the 4th new year that this blog has seen. There was 2006's Happy New Year!, 2007's A New Year, 2008's New Year. I was half tempted to name this entry "Year" but it wouldn't have made much sense.

But I like how it's plainly 2009. No strings attached. No connotations of unachievable expectations, no pining for something that's beautiful only in dreams. It is solid, matter-of-fact as numbers are and sombre. It's a serious, dangerous thing to step into a new year, much like marching to a band whose beat you can't hear. Sometimes we go in with high expectations, overflowing optimism, only to look back and bitch about the fact that everything wasn't what it's supposed to be.

Yes I'm in a bad mood.

It's always amazing how necessary it is to have a restart button. It's an opportunity to throw away the bad sketch on the canvas and get a new, spotless one altogether.

Yes, we are looking for the perfect drawing. One that has the least mistakes, the best mix of colours, the greatest balance, the correct proportions, is the most appreciated, the shiniest of the shiny, the awesomest of the awesome...

I hope I find mine before I run out of canvas.
