It's A Wrap

I've not had the chance to think of what it meant to took part in TMW ?!. It's been a crazy journey, with a lot of hard work leading up to the days of the performance. However it was only until it was performed in front of a live audience that I realised how much impact it had on people. I saw how different it was for there to be people right in front of you and acknowledging what is being presented. The audience is right there! It's quite hard to ignore them.

Having said that I thought it was a fantastic experience although there were certainly times that I was freaked out over the fact that things weren't ready. I was also fortunate to have worked with an ecouraging, friendly and funny cast. There were awesome. Also equally awesome was the everyone else in the crew. It's amazing to see so many people toiling for a common cause.

I love theatre even more after this. I remember how nervous I was last semester when I had a relatively small role for one of my group assignments. I was shaking during the presentation. I've matured since then. I'm not so self-conscious and I'm more aware of the stage as well as the audience. I can't wait for my acting module next semester!

And lastly... thank you all for coming to show your support.

Graduation

I've "graduated" from The Minister's Wife!

I can safely say that it was a success. It reminds me of one line though...

"Alack the day, alack the day. Death reminds me of graduation. Some of us graduate earlier, some of us graduate later, but we all graduate."

Silky Smooth

We put up our first show yesterday to much laughter. I'm glad it was even funnier for the audience than it was for us. I think the stage chemistry was great, especially in act 1. We all had rather endearing characters. I was also happy that someone said that Supei and my characters were funny. It was a big deal to me, especially since it was my first time in a play.

A big thank you to Colin, Weetz and Stanley for coming down! Sorry I didn't have time to meet you all in person after the show. To Samuel and his girlfriend... thank you for like long-time support as a friend and as a brother. Knowing that you were there in the audience "to support and not to judge" was comforting to say the least. To Benjamin and his friend Ron - it was a fucking huge surprise. I am amazed and in wonder of what a friendship that started close to a decade ago has become. We've probably met each other less than 10 times since I got booted from RV. But this is one of those... times. And lastly to Melvin, your presence was a huge encouragement as well. Hope all of you enjoyed the show.

Rock and a Hard Place

There are certain things we can or cannot do; there are also certain things that I can or cannot say to you - we need to censor ourselves... there are limitations.

- The Minister's Wife ?!

I've been up to a lot recently. I've been engaging in a bit of deception, but then again, who goes through a day without dabbling in it? It's hard to pull wool over the eyes of those that you care about. But I take comfort in the fact that the truth reveals itself in time.

It's tough being judged. I've always been kindly critical, but everyone has different standards. In a couple of weeks I'll be up there and out there, in the view of many, under glaring lights.

It's a struggle. It's a struggle to look good when you're sick. I look like fuck. I've lost quite a lot of weight. I need to gain in back in the next couple of days.

No, I can't be insecure.

But what the hell. It doesn't matter. Regardless of what I've done, I've already found someone who loves me for who I am.

And that's enough.

Mr Tan

Mr Tan has been a rather tough character. It's precisely because he's ordinary and familiar, that he becomes difficult to portray. He's recognised by everybody. He's a person that everyone has some kind of impression of.

I think I'm slowly doing him justice. It was tough at the beginning and it still is tough. I was confused and it showed. I thought he'd be more reserved though and I was totally wrong! I find it a bit difficult to get into character at the front but the lines at the back really shows that he's someone who's amusingly honest, which is really fun to play. I don't know if it's the Singlish, or the fact that he's probably about twice my age. It's going to take some time and a whole lot of effort, but I guess there's plenty of both still. There's still a chance to do him justice.

I enjoy rehearsal although we almost always get off to a slow start. Everyone's been very helpful and throwing me advice left, right and center. It's a bit overwhelming for a first-timer like me and there are times when I'm not in the zone. Or at least not the right one! Haha...

The performance is slightly more than a month away and the play's title is still not confirmed. Interestingly enough, it's due to the inability to capture the play's essence in a couple words. As with any title, the purpsoe is to evoke curiosity yet not give everything away. The script, on the other hand, is getting tighter and tigher. It does make one nervous that still in the works, but the fact that Hadri and Mike and probably a couple of people behind the scenes are still working on it tirelessly shows their commitment to the project. And the lines are indeed getting better.

It's my biggest project thus far, but I've still got tonnes to do this holiday, including this new job that's not as good as I thought it would be. Oh well, win some, lose some.

Acting Stint

I'm thrilled to be acting in The Minister's Wife, a play produced by Closet Pulp Theatre.

Initially I was apprehensive. I haven't been to an audition before, my holiday schedule is insanely packed, I've never acted in a play... It was madness to have done it. Thankfully with the encouragement of friends and the director, I went, got the part and completed the photo shoot the night before.

I hope everything goes smoothly and all of you should get your cash ready when I invite you to come watch it! More information about the details as it comes in... I can't wait to see the publicity photos, posters and everything else!

It's going to be one crazy, exhausting journey preparing for this, but I think it'll definitely be an unforgettable experience.
