Another Song

I bought Justin's concert DVD two days ago and it's good. I like how the entire thing was put together although it's really obvious that he's tried real hard to break out from the teenage boyband image. He's successful because other than for the fact that he sang Gone, there was no reference to his cheesy past. I thought his costume changes were pathetically few, but then again I'm comparing it against Spears and Minogue. Not a very fair one. I think the only other legitimate comparison would be to Usher... Haha... For now I can't think of any one else that belongs to this category.

His dance moves were sharp and impressive, the playing of instruments was a big plus and his singing was decent. If he had performed in Singapore I would've gone to watch, him without hesitation! My Love was undoubtedly his best performance, but there were many other high points. Sexyback didn't really require any sort of stunts. The mere performance of the song was enough to get the crowd riled!

This recess week was... it could've been slightly better I guess. I enjoyed most of it, but half of my mind was one the work I had to complete for next week. It sucks big time to have so many assignments being piled on when it's supposed to be the holidays. I really thought that I'd be more disciplined and experienced in handling my academic stuff, but it turns out that I'm not very much better off from last semester. It's still not too late becuase there's half a semester left to go but it's torture to have to go through it. Sucks.

Ooh yeah and the recent escape of Mas Selamat Kastari... I don't know what to say except that I'm not ignorant enough to pretend that everything's already. I'm quite concerned about our state of national security right now. This guy is really damn dangerous. I can't imagine what would happen if his plans for an attack on Changi Airport succeeded or that he's going to try it again as for as long as he lives. A human being with such ideas in his head should be hanged the moment they get him. My sister pointed out that they may be using the small fish to catch the big fish, a point which I overlooked.

But then I don't have that much time to think about it when I have 4 assignments to hand in next week.

Paddlephilia

Last Friday night, a group of Hall 12-ers, better known during the trip as Paddlephiles, took a bus all the way into Malaysia for an unforgettable paddling experience.

We reached the our starting point at about 4AM or so and took a nap for awhile before having breakfast. Then we commenced with our paddling!

I teamed up with Wei Fang and together we conquered a couple of rapids.

bb01

Along the way, I was snapping photos madly of the people around me. Most of them came out rather good, save for a few! I am damn glad that my camera is still working despite having to face the elements that I've exposed it to! I actually put it in a Ziploc bag and then into a tupperware but it didn't really help and it got wet anyway! Peeing was an interesting sight as people had to voluntarily jump out from the safety of their kayaks and into the river! It was a really enjoyable experience as we made our way down to our first check point for lunch. Along the way there were water fights, frisbee games and stealing of paddles. Mad.

We reached our first check point for lunch which happened to be a nice clearing. I played a bit of frisbee, before taking more photographs, (daringly bringing my precious camera with me into the river) and doing fish therapy. The fish did bite away at the dead skin on our feet. At the same time, we were trying to catch them!

bb02

We took some ANTM-ish photos. My photography skills have really improved and I'm beginning to look at pictures differently already! This one was taken by Siting who took a couple of tries to get it right but it turned out terrific at the end! Love it!

bb03

Another one taken by me. I should've turned it into black-and-white but yeah, I think it's good enough! Haha! I requested an emo look and got it! This was basically the bunch of people I hung out with during the entire trip, with the exception of Jai, from L-R, Bernice, Wei Fang, Siting, Liqi and Kelvin. We caught more fish, played more frisbee in the water and joked around before moving on to our final campsite.

We made our way through a couple more rapids consecutively where the currents were damn bloody strong. I felt like I almost crashed into rocks and my life would end as I know it.

There was a limit to the number of photos that I could take because I only had a single battery to last me 3 days! Boo.

Anyway, we got to our campsite, set up our tents for the night and bathed in the river. I've done it a couple of times, in Thailand, in Brunei and they were all really memorable. The river was cool and we chose a place where the water was fast-flowing just so we could get all the dirt away! Haha! I enjoyed it tremendously. It's probably one of the perks of having to live outdoors. We waited quite awhile for dinner before it was served. The chilli was bloody spicy! The chicken tasted rather good.

While washing up for the night we were met with really huge ants crawling in the cubicles. It was quite a sight.

We went to sleep straight after that!

bb04

The next day we prepared for an entire day of trekking.

I was reminded of the times when I travelled through various forests on my various trips, crossing rivers, grabbing on the branches on either side for balance and climbing up steep slopes. Compared to the routes that I've walked in Brunei, it was relatively relaxing. Oh, and the only things that I carried were boxes of lunch!

bb05

We stopped at a rest point where we saw the skin left behind by an insect. I can't remember the name of that process. Anyway, looking downwards we saw plenty of huge fishes that look like they could possibly be sold at Qian Hu! Haha...

After another 10 minutes, we reached a small waterfall where we had lunch. We also discovered and played with leeches, tadpoles and a bubble egg nest.

bb06

We had a crazy time taking photos. Getting to this rock was slightly tricky and required ropes and assistance. The rocks in the water were damn slippery. Still, despite a couple of falls, all of us got there in the end!

Next up we made our way to the Blue Lagoon. There was this part that was as deep as a diving pool, so we made full use of it by performing a couple of jumps from some rocks. I tried very hard to do a nice dive, but all I did was really half-fucked ones and ended up landing feet first! Haha...

bb07

The three of us went to the a flip but I didn't manage to. Damn sad. Bleargh.

We trekked back, bathed in the river with the girls, played Heart Attack and had campfire for the night. Our group won quite a lot of food and I er, had the chance to dress up with a made-up bra and acted as Britney Spears. It's my first time in drag so... what the hell! It won me Mr Sexy (thanks for nominating me Weifang.. haha!) but before I could get my certificate, we were attacked by a whole lot of flies.

Almost a swarm.

Our campfire ended as we tried to put out as many lights as possible and they gave out the lucky draw prizes for the Top 3, which happened to be World of Sports vouchers. I think. I didn't win that, but I won some food instead. My first lucky draw prize!

bb08

After a good night's rest we got ready to say goodbye to our campsite, took our belongings and trekked to a place where we got picked up by boats to a small village. We were introduced to a lot of animal traps, some of which I've seen before, but was impressed all the same!

bb09

After lunch, we picked up a couple of puzzles to play with. This photo is one of Bernice and Jie Ming enjoying the simple life, which also happens to be just the thing I need for my COM206 assignment! I've 3 out of the 6. I need one more of a female putting on make-up in a dressing room. Anyone wants to help out?

We took a 3 hour boat ride (that was really too damn long) to our bus which brought us shopping for a short 30 minutes. We bought a few foodstuffs and made our way to a seafood restaurant where we had a great dinner.

I had a lot of fun and would definitely go on another overseas trip like this one! It makes me realise that I do enjoy the great outdoors for a couple of days despite the inconveniences like the lack of electricity!

More photos can be found at the Hall 12 Unofficial Photo Collection. Check it out!

Blah

I'll be away this weekend on a trip to Malaysia. It's a Hall event and we're going to be doing some serious paddling! I'm quite excited about the trip but the thought of catching up on all my work once I come back for recess week is really a pain in the butt.

I've finally sent my laptop for servicing so I hope that it'll come back as good as new. I've been having problems with it for the past month and it's really frustrating. I hate seeing it split into 6 screens and have the colours all jumbled up. My laptop is something I can't live without... and I realise that there's a lot I can't do without it! I'm even considering getting a desktop to put in hall! RAWR!

I'm behind on a lot of work but hopefully there'll all be cleared one by one, and easily, as soon as I get started on them!

Hall 12 Day

I had a chance to perform on Hall 12 Day on Monday and I was really very freaked out because I had never been on stage to sing prior to this. It was my first ever experience. I've always imagined myself on stage singing, but I've never actually done it before. So it was fantastic to get a chance to perform in front of a great audience.

day1201

I really appreciated all the cheers and encouragement, because it took a lot of me to get up there and sing. There was great food at the event but because of my jitters I just couldn't eat anything! A big shout out to the people who organised it as well! If you really want to spoil your ears and hear (and see in crap quality) my performance of Everytime, here's the shizzale on Youtube!

day1202

I got treated to quite a few fantastic performances, some of which left me too utterly speechless to take photos of. And I only took photos of Jai and Zhi Wei during their preparation. When they were performing... wow. Everyone's attention was fixed on them. Zhi Wei's performance was exceptionally memorable because of the crazy crowd involvement... check out a snippet of it on youtube as well!

day1203

My bros... haha...

day1204

Along with all the other fantastic singers, Angela, Hong Da (sorry I missed your performance!), Yew Hong, Shi Bin, Zhi Wei and Kyon(WOW!), I received Ferrero Rocher and a 10 dollar Espirit voucher! WOWOWOWOW! I honestly did not expect anything from performing, but the show of gratitude really goes both ways. I'm... wow-ed.

day1205

And a photo of all the Tintin peeps who turned up at the event, except Wei Fang! Kelvin... you never come lor! BOO! And Justin came in likfe, for the last half an hour! For more photos of the event, visit the Hall 12 Unofficial Photo Collection!

Annual Class Steamboat

There's no other class in my entire academic life that I'm close to. My NYJC class is the only one that I meet up with year after year and I like it cos we still feel really connected to each other. Sometimes I do wish we had more opportunity to meet up, but because of scheduling conflicts and two of my favourite people (ANGELINE AND DAVID BLEARGH) going back to Australia to continue their studies, it just wouldn't be the same!

Anyway, we gathered at Ming Boon's house, as always. And we had steamboat for dinner, as always. And as always, there was mahjong. The only difference was that this was the first time I was participating!

0301

Haha... my crush on mahjong got acutely intense these couple of months due to exposure from a couple of friends and relatives.

And then we had the steamboat.

0302

The food was fantastic, as always. Yeah, I'm comforted by the pattern that has formed with regards to our little reunion every year.

0303

And here are the guys... I love them. Argh! I don't know how to explain it, but the chemistry I have with each one of them is just amazing. I meet up with them individually in my own time so it's nice to see them all together at one shot!

0304

We are so running out of poses to do outside Ming Boon's house, especially if this keeps up every year!

0305

And we continued with the Mahjong! Haha! Oh man I lost in the end but yeah, a rare occassion for all of us to play together!

P.S I Love You

PSLOVE

It was brilliant. The poster's terrible though. It looks terribly cheesy and cliche. Someone should get it changed. But I think positive word of mouth will save the film from the movie's lousy poster. Could there be any poster more unoriginal?

Directed by the same man who gave us Freedom Writers (one of my favourite movies last year), Richard LaGravenese, P.S I Love You is a fast-paced, hilarious romantic drama that moved and tickled me to tears. I've read that some critics thought Hilary Swank looked out of place in a romantic comedy or something to that effect, but I thought she was really good! Same goes for Gerard Butler. The transformation from Spartan to charming Irishman couldn't have been more disarming.

How much do they pay Lisa Kudrow to appear in this movie? Because they really should be giving her double! She was bloody hilarious and gave a movie a punch and a kick to life, even when it wasn't needed. I don't really watch Friends but am aware of her awesomeness! She should really have skipped on the botox though! Other small-screen actors that played a supporting role include James Masters (Spike from Buffy) and the really amazing Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Danny Duquette from Grey's Anatomy). I was always pissed with his character on Grey's because he stole Izzie from Alex (cue loud collective BOO) and thought he looked like a rat. But he too managed to shake away his previous roles and step into one of a suave Irish pub singer convincingly. I thought that was brilliant considering I've always thought he was ratty...

The story is out of this world. It completely blew my mind. I don't know if it'll appeal to others but... It's well constructed. There's nothing that's expected of this film. It's not just like any other throw-away romantic comedy. It's better. I shan't spoil it by giving away what goes on in the movie, but it's basically about death and letters.

And watch out for the opening argument scene. If I wrote a dialogue like that for my playwriting class, I think I'll get A+ without attending any more lessons!

Denise Hennessey: [Denise is admiring Ted as he walks by] Ooohhh, he's delicious isn't he? I'd serve coffee on that ass.
John McCarthy: Do you have to be so vulgar about men? Like they're pieces of meat?
Denise Hennessey: I'm sorry, John. I forgot you're sensitive about your flat ass.
John McCarthy: You know, Denise, that's why you're not married. Women act like men. Then they complain men don't want them.
Denise Hennessey: Oh, is that why? 'Cause I thought it was something different. I thought that it was 'cause I deserved the best and he's out there. He's just with all the wrong women. And let me be clear. After CENTURIES of men looking at my tits instead of my eyes and pinching my ass instead of shaking my hand, I now have the *DIVINE* right to stare at a man's BACKSIDE with vulgar, cheap appreciation if I want to!

Double O

Saturday night sky tinted gold
Heart beat in anticipation as the night unfolds
Dressed up earlier to Piece of Me
Hoping to pay less clubbing fee

club01

Originally planned to go O-Bar
But walking from Dhoby Ghaut was so damn far
Thus it was only worth the trouble
To make the big O a double

club02

Samuel was cold, his jokes were lame
Louis was late and for a jug he paid
Music was good, lights started to fade
"Let's hit the bloody dancefloor!" I said

After many rounds of Tequila we were somewhat wasted
It's like WE'RE FUCKING HIGH was pasted
On our faces were manic smiles
Like students while burning A level files

club03

Past midnight and we decided
Fuck it, it's too late not a moment to be wasted
Get a damn plate fill it up with glasses
15 shots for us, don't stop drinking, bastards!

Walked through square rooms
And Britney's voice boomed
... Baby one more time
Ooh that sent shivers up my spine

club04

My head was spinning
I danced faster and faster
Didn't know what I was doing
Just got higher and higher

club05

Stumbled out of the club sprawled against the wall
My ear was like, deaf, I couldn't hear at all
Got a guy to take a photo for us
His technique sucked, I could've taken one for us!

club06

7-11 is a store and more
I talked to the cashier in a drunken drawl
Gave a silly smile, everything's alright
I was just trying hard not to get beaten in a fight

Last, last, last of all
We managed to catch a cab before 4
The ride was quick and painful
I begged for a plastic bag like a fool

Wind tasted great in my mouth
As the cold night wind blew through my hair
After paying the uncle all my cash
I felt like my stomach just got bashed

I threw up again in the bushes
Laid on the pavement as my abs cramped up
Thinking that my friends would call me Drama King
I stood back up

And walked back home
